Question about Tascam DP01 All-In-One Recording Package Microphone

My recorder won't go past ''reading song''. It is locked up!

I turn on recorder (Tascam DP-01FX/CD) and it begins like normal , then when it reads....''READING SONG'', it locks up. You can't operate any controls at this point. It appears to load the song but there is nothing you can do at this point. You can't turn it off properly, you have to simply turn it off. It continues to do the same thing every time.

Hi,

see if the player tries to read the disc. Load a disc and listen.
Does the player make squealing noises or is it totally quiet? Squealing noises may indicate that the player is trying to synchronize with the disc but can't due to an obstruction on the lens or in the laser path inside the pickup or a defect in the pickup. This can also be caused by an intermittent signal problem due to a faulty ribbon cable.

Totally silent means that the photo sensor is not getting any usable input from the laser at all, meaning that the pickup is "blind" for lack of a better word.
This can be caused by an obstruction of the beam by foreign matter on the lens or inside the pickup all the way to a marginal or failed laser diode and/or photosensor array. This can also be caused by a bad ribbon cable with one or more severed traces.

You could try to clean the optics. This is the most common malfunction as far as i know in all disc players. It would involve taking the cover off and finding a way to expose the lense, and then cleaning it with a very gentle brush. some players have a cover for the lense that swings to the side during playing, this greatly reduces the chance of dust accumulating, but its still worth the try.

If you actually see dust on the lense, then its just that simple. clean, close, play.

It may also be worth your while to check on the small shafting that guides the carriage of the laser pickup. Dirt, grome, dust and solidified lubricant can cause stoppage of the carriage and the laser eye then fails to read the next track. Please refer to the image i have attached.

First check that the tascman has not the reading lock on.

Back up all the songs that you have on the tascam into a computer and then format the tascam using the command on tascam menu.

Hi, this is a recording studio, not a tascam recorder. Then the problem is more complicate.

Check that the songs are in correct format, record a new song and play it, if it goes through, then the song files you were reading are not compatible.

    Here is the manual: DP-01 DP-01FX DP-01FX/CD

If the problem persist , check at page 40 on how to format the disk.

The lock on was referring to a portable tascam recorder, this is a recording studio.
Verify songs format, try recording a new song and importing from cd (see on manual howto).

If you get the same problem on all songs , then try saving all your songs and formatting the hard drive, this will correct problems on hard drive partition that can cause the Tascam to freeze.

    Again, the manual: DP-01 DP-01FX DP-01FX/CD

I also assume you have problems reading from disk, if the tascam has problem reading songs from CD, then as suggested by the other exert, clean the lens.

Tascam DP-01FX/CD wont turn on

Refer to your manual (1st) It appears that "maybe" your unit may be
locked - until you get through the menus - and type/press EXIT.
If you don't have a red indicator light - lit. Turn off power switch (rear)
and unplug unit for 1 minute. Plug in - then turn on switch (rear)....if
still no red indicator light....you'll need either Tascam or Samsung
tech to service your unit. Good Luck.

Memory poor

This is an error in Tascam's code that usually means 'out of disk space'. Try using 'delete unused' to free up some space first within the song you're on and after that you might consider backing up some songs to your PC and then deleting them from the DP-01 to free up more disk space.

Hope this helps.

Mastering the songs

You’re trying to master with the OUT point at the zero position.
Set the OUT point and try again.

Check chapter “IN and OUT marks” on page 29 of your manual if you don't know how to set the 'in' and 'out' marks.
