Question about Kicker Solo-Baric S12L5 Car Subwoofer

1 Answer

Rattling subwoofer I have a kicker S12L5 subwoofer with an SPL1500 amp. I had the amp level in the middle and the sub was working fine last night. This morning I was driving to school and it was fine. Then it shut off and wouldnt work. I turned everything off and turned it back on and all the sub did was rattle. I thought the coils might have burnt up because I smelled an odor like that but they were fine. It just doesnt seem to be working right at all. What should I do.

Re: Rattling subwoofer

If you can smell burning I would say your voice coils are shot... My friend has a older Kicker subwoofer and it was doing the same thing you described... We took it in and the audio repair shop said it was toast.

Im trying to figure out how i should wire my Kicker S12L5 sub to my Kicker Zr360 amp. should i wire it for 1ohm and bridge it or what if you could help it would be much appreciated thanks. ...

What is the wattage of the sub? What is the power output of the amp, bridged & not bridged? If the bridged power output will NOT exceed the rated power of the sub then you should bridge it. If it will exceed the rated power of the sub then don't. 8)

Can i hook up my sub if it's wired to a 2 ohm and my amp is 4 ohm

Hi martineztag
You should never connect a load of an impedance less than the min the amp is able to drive. This can have disastrous consequences that may easily result in failure of the amps output stages. You need to use a different configuration that does not overload the amp in this manner for safe operation.

I have a brand new L7 is it blown?

check to make sure your box is securely sealed and that the box itself is not rattling. if not, most subs require a break in period where they can not be played full gain/full volume for the first 48 or so hours... did you break in your subs by paying it softly the first day and slowly turning your amps gain and receivers volume up the next couple of days. if not, it is likely blown

Best amp for Kicker Sub

Hello dalex7,

The Kicker 08ZX400.1 would be a great amp for your subwoofer. It will work into a 4ohm load with no problems.

But you can buy an amp with more power, looks better, has a smaller footprint, and cost less than the 400.1. I'd look at the Alpine MRP-M500. Take a look at it here at Crutchfield. The M500 is also easy to install, runs cool, and is very efficient.

Hope this helps.

I have two kicker l5 10's with a 1600 DB SERIES bass dont sound very clear how can i make it clear and loud ?

Make sure to tune the amp according to the subs. Turn all the levels down on the amp, then start with turning up the gain till you can tell the sub is struggling, from there turn up the crossover to around 120hz. Then adjust the gain again as now it will prolly be to high. Also it depends on how you have the subs wired up.

My subs sound distorted and dont pound right 2 12in cvr kickers and a kingwood 2 channel amp think its not wired right

Are you sure the polarity is correct on the sub's connectors? This is very important as reversing them will cause the sub to pound inward instead of out. Make sure the wires are thick enough and that the amp's + connector goes to the red(or +) connector on the sub and that the amp is grounded properly to a clean piece of metal on the car's body. This ground wire should also be as short as possible. Also make sure the fine-tuning for the bass level on the amp is adjusted correctly and that the sub's enclosure is the correct specification ie. Ported or sealed, right size, etc.
