Not all older monitors have the correct monitor.inf information for the newer operating systems. Look for a new monitor.inf file download that matches your monitor for Windows 8.

Here are the pinouts

in 15pin connector of the monitor,
red wire goes to pin No:1
green wire goes to pin no:2
blue wire goes to pin no:3
yellow wire goes to pin no:13
white wire goes to pin no:14
and black wire goes to 5&15. Now display will come!

Pink - red input - pin 1 green - green input - pin 2 blue - blue input - pin 3 ground shield wire - pin 6,7,8 and 10 black - ddc 5v - pin 9 violet - screen raster - pin 11 white - data or sda - pin 12 orange - clock or scl - pin 15 yellow - vertical signal - pin 14 clear - horizontal signal - pin 13

look into the 15 pin vga connecter care fully you will look numbers 1 to 15 which is very small it configration is as follows

at another end same letters will see take continuty and join new cable

Sounds like you have swapped pins 2 & 3 in your VGA plug.
