Halogen Lights Failing (by 5 users)

posted by GregH on Mar 28, 2007

I am an appliance salesman for a locally owned business in my city. I sold this hood to a customer of mine that has been having problems with the halogen lighting. Initially the lights just quit working. Three seperate service calls were made to repair the problem. Each time after the lights failed shortly after. The whole hood was replaced and two days later the lights failed again. There have been no problems with the vent motor at all, only the lights. Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks!!!

I have the same problem. I installed the GE Monogram ZV1050SFSS 42" hood, and the lights and fan worked great for a week. Then, after 8 days of use, the lights quit working. I had a GE repairman come out and examine the hood. The bulbs and fuses were checked and were all OK. The repairman replaced the circuitboard and the transformer box. The lights then worked great for about 10 days, before quiting again. The repairman has now been out four times. I am currently negotiating with the GE Chairman's office to have GE replace the entire hood. It is still under warranty.

We are having the same problem with our 2 years new hood. All of the lights started to flicker about 1 week ago (they'd get bright and then dim) and today they don't come on at all. Must say that we've been pretty unimpressed with our complete kitchen purchase in general. It took almost 1 year to get our Monogram refridgerator to the point where we don't need to call the service dept. every month. Sounds like that is what we'll have to do again....

We replaced the bulbs and it still doesn't work...None of the lights work. It is only 2 years new.

If the hood is on the same circuit as the range / cooker then maybe there is a power surge when the cooker is turned on or off, or possibly a low voltage when the cooker is running - that will often damage halogens - try wiring the hood totally seperate.

Unless there is a similar generic fault with both hoods, power supply has to be the problem. (I am guessing that the bulbs were the right ones).

Hope this can help :)
