Re: I need to replace FL231 fuse.
Yes you must take back off and NO do not lay set over! POwer/deflection board is first board on bottom to left on right side bottom SSB board. FL231 is located on right side of FBT it has 2 wires coming out from it red/black(3) fuses look like small brown caps right in a roll it will be the middle fuse

The flyback transformer has solder cracks around the pins and most likely blown the FL231 Micro fuse to the right of the flyback.I would inspect the flybacks solder. The FL231 and the CL230 and DL231 should also be replaced ( near the flyback) You can get the ITC222 Convergence option missing repair kit from www.tvrepairworld.com under the RCA repair kits. The kit contains the parts and the CD with repair instructions
Thats usually caused by a blown FL231 Fuse and a blown DL231 diode that blow when the flyback transformer develops solder cracks around the pins. The repair is to first resolder the flyback then replace the FL231 fuse and DL231 diode. You can get the RCA / GE convergence option missing repair kit which has the parts and repair instructions from www.tvrepairworld.com
If you replaced the fuse alone without installing the other components that are rquired to repair that issue the new fuse can allow voltages to flow trough the diode in both directions which can prevent the set from firing up. You need to replace the FL231, DL231 and CL230 as a set then reflow the solder on the flyback and vertical IC.
Your has probably blown fuse fl231, causing your convergence to go out. This is often a sign of a bad power supply. The fuse is located right next to the power supply. Replace the fuse and check flyback for bad solder joints. I fuse blows again, replace fuse and flyback transformer.
Hi, rca`s don`t have convergence IC`s, they use an entirely different system to perform convergence, you have a blown chemical fuse and 3-6 bad solder joints on your flyback transformer. replace fl231 chemical fuse rated at 400ma. right beside flyback (theres 3 of them your bad one is the middle one)and while your soldering re-solder all of the flyback transformer pins and your tv will be back to normal :) video-tek
if the fuse you took out at first was fried black as cool, how do you know it was .6a
now the fl231 as I told you before is close to the flyback transformer
Go to google search -type in flyback transformer --enter
scroll down to get video results for flyback
now you will see what a flyback looks like
you should not try to fix tv if you have no idea of tv repair.it is very cmplicated and fatal .there is serious high voltage in tv sets
i assume you speaking of the fusable link that causes the convergence problem... IF the convergence option is not visable in the setup menu. then possibley FL231 is the problem this is a small rectangular fuse brown or tan in color. this is located on the deflection board on left of the set from the back. there is a large black component with a large wire coming out of the top. this is the flyback.. to the right of it on the board is three small rectangular componts brown or tan in color. the fl231 is the middle one of these. the curcit board has index markings like a map these components are located in Q5 Quadrant. When replacing this rember to resolder connections on flyback(that large black thing with wire out the top) This is why the fuse blew to begin with
Hi ,here is some of the tips found on www.repairworld.com no convergence- replace fuse FL231 near flyback or in front of flyback also solder flyback pins alot of these sets have poor connections, they are having alot of trouble from ribbons that connect from bottom tuner broad going to convergence broad also connectors that ribbons plug into so far there is more infor on the HD52w59 .The next set i get in my shop the first thing is to solder power supply broad, then see what happens so far the 2 sets i have now i havent been able to fix,but im not quiting untill i fix them or throw them back to customers.
Instead of taking the board out, I just soldered two wires to the old fl231 fuse on the underside. Installed a fuse holder with a half amp fuse. And I re-soldered all of the flyback points. My tv is working like new. thanks for everyone's help.
