Computer locked up and is putting up a screen that reads primary master hitachi HTS543216L9S LOCK

This is a "security" feature, to allow _only_ the person who knows the password for the encrypted disk-drive to use (and boot from) the unit. There's no way to bypass this security.

This depends on if this was set in the cmos (which it sounds as it was). There are some of the newer cmos hd-locks that will NOT enable you to even format a drive with this lock enabled. Sometimes you have to use a method that will nuke the hardrive and everything on it. I used to use a program called "boot & nuke" You can find it for free on the net. dariks boot and nuke is freeware. Use this as a last resort tho. Good luck

You will need to seek out an engineer, as it will need to be taken apart and then they can short it out at a certain place to reset it.

For HDD password, clearing CMOS will NOT reset the hdd password. This ata password is not stored inside CMOS.
