Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

I have a Western Digital USB 2.0 Passport (160GB).  The board that contains the mini USB is damaged in that the USB receptacle is no good (came off the board).  This board simply snaps onto the HDD and I need a new one.

Since your planning to buy a new one I suggest you get a 1 tb regarding on the size of the disk and it's much more cheaper to get a bigger size. If your planning on still trying to use that old one. You can try contacting Western Digital then ask them if the product you got still has a warranty but based on the size of the disk you got there it may already be out of warranty.

Hard disk password reset

Hey;

You can NOT reset the password on a HD. It's written in the hardware as well as on the HD itself.

I looking for a pcb boad for hd western digital

That would be on another WD2500JB Caviar harddrive

Either that, or start looking on the internet posting -
WD2500JB PCB Board, and see what search hits come up.

Here,.....let me try.............

http://www.hdd-parts.com/18100096.html

Before you replace it, let me ask........
1) Was it in a Desktop PC?

2) Was it in an external harddrive?

External harddrive?
Then suggest you obtain a 3.5 IDE (PATA) external enclosure,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3883498&CatId=2780

In an external harddrive there is a small interface circuit board.

The Harddrive plugs into the small interface circuit board, and the USB cable is attached to the small interface circuit board.

It is this small interface circuit board that usually goes bad.

The external enclosure is just like the case of the external harddrive.
Has a USB cable going to a small interface circuit board, and the harddrive plugs into it.

SATA Hard Drive Type The Dell Optiplex GX280 Takes?

Hi,

It makes no difference providing the computer motherboards support SATA interface.

SATA 1 and 2 drivers are in the BIOS. If all the computers have SATA 1 you can upgrade the BIOS to latest version via Dell's support website.

Reinstall software to use my 160GB freeAgent Go USB

Hi, I am assuming that you are referring to a USB based external hard drive called Free Agent, by Seagate I think.

Which operating system are you using ?

Windows XP has native support for USB, and it should automatically detect the hard drive when you plug it in.
It should NOT require any other software to access the drive.

if not:
1) Check that the HD is powered up
2) Try a different USB cable
3) Try a different USB socket

4) Make sure that the HARD drive is correctly formatted:
i.e. Assuming you are running Windows XP
(Vista should have similar facilities)

Goto to the Control Panel -->
Double click on Administrative Tools
Double click on Computer Management
Look down, under storage,
Click on "Disk Management"
Give it a couple seconds to search for drives,
and to populate the list ...

Check to see if the external disk appears in the list:
It should be partitioned with an EXTENDED partition,
containing a LOGICAL drive, and formatted with NTFS.

If necessary, partition and format the drive, assuming
you have not already done so, and the drive does not
contain any data.

If the drive did previously contain your data, you can
either loose the data and re-format it, or you can hire
a data recovery company to repair the damaged drive.

Maxtor onetouch 4 mini 160gb used as back up

Yes you do. If you don't have them they are available from the manufacturer but for some reason they want you to email them with the serial number of the drive.
