Hi Jacque,
I gather the paper has got into the fuser and cannot get into the output bin. Few things...
1. Clean output rollers. Are rollers moving?
2. Check gears on the fuser unit. Any broken or worn gears?
3. Check default paper size setting in printer, paper size setting on tray, paper size setting in printer driver and document page.
4. Leave the back door open. Does the printer still jams? If it does, see it could be paper pick up problem. Use different trays or the manual feed. Also the fuser unit could be the problem.
5. All else fails, replace the output assembly.

What would cause paper jams in a hp 4100 printer

Where is it jamming. Printer this age could have fuser issues, worn rollers that are not picking up properly. Is the jammed paper crinkled up or does the printer stop before damaging the paper? If paper is not damaged, the cause is usually in the paper pickup slipping and causing the printer to think that the paper is either too long or too short. Clean all the rollers in the paper tray cavity with a damp cloth.

Analyse what type of jam it is...based on that we can shoot the trouble.1. Paper is jamming before entry in fuser and its folds like curl in the cartridge area.. A. Fuser Teflon sleeve not rotating or slow rotation results media(paper)unable to reached the destination in specified interval. Replace fuser assm or Teflon sleeve.2. Paper jamming after fuser assembly crossed little bit ( approx 1-2 inch).A. Clean fuser out paper sensor, check sensor flag & flag spring located in fuser assm.3. Paper jammed after fuser crossed more than 6 inches..A. Paper is jammed in fuser. Actually it is contact paper jammed in the fuser. (Don't ask).:0) While it was not a smart move, I am unable to "unjam" it. Any suggestions?

You'll be extremely lucky if your fuser is not ruined. Nevertheless, first you have to remove the fuser.

1) Open the cartridge door and lower the secondary door as when you change the cartridges.
2) Raise the fuser cover that is just below the LCD screen on the front of the printer.
3) The fuser sits right on top. Loosen two blue plastic screw-locks--one on each end of the fuser. Then, lift it straight up and out of the printer (be sure it is cooled off!).
4) Inspect the fuser rollers indside the fuser housing.

More than likely, the rollers will have the contact paper wrapped all around and stuck to them, since the fuser generates heat like an iron. Rotate the fusers main big gear to try and get the paper out. In the likely event you cannot remove it (without damage to the rollers), you can try using 97% or higher isopropyl alcohol on a lint-free cloth if you cann even reach the affected areas to remove it.

If all else fails, go online and look for a rebuilt fuser...much cheaper than a new original. You have my sympthies, and GOOD LUCK.

HP Laserjet 4100 jams after about 50 print jobs

most typical jams are caused by bad pickup roller or separation pad. When you pull out the paper tray, and look inside the printer above the tray area, there's a roller that is held on with a little clip in the center of the roller. Pinch that clip to take the roller out and clean with soap and water. do not use alcohol based cleaners, they dry the rubber up and shorten the life span drastically. The separation pad should be right at the front of the paper tray, clean that also. If your printer keeps jamming after that, you may have some more serious like a fuser going bad.

HP Laserjet 4100 series , paper jam output tray.( on top of the printer ). The roller under the topcover is turning the wrong way. The paper can't get out of the printer, and jams between the upper roller...

Hi F_bulsara,
First thing to try is to flip the paper over in the input tray. There are 2 sides to paper. One side may curl a bit too much due to heat of the fuser and get caught near the output rollers.

Unless the Output Assembly was assembled wrong, it is impossible for the rollers to turn the wrong way. The gear in the fuser drives the output assembly. The top rollers are rolling out.
If the rollers are not rolling, then one of the gears must be broken or missing. The output rolllers might need cleaning.

Next check the fuser unit. Disconnect power to printer and turn printer round. Remove the back output tray and the two small covers (left and right). Undo the 2 screws that hold the fuser in place. Pull the fuser out. Check the gears on side of the fuser. A broken gear in the fuser could cause this problem.

Printer now not printing, as it says there is a paper jam

it sounds as though your pick up rollers are worn. when the oprinter can not pick the paper from the selected tray (tray 2 in your case) then it shows up as a jam. to sort this you will need:

One of these: RM1-0036-020: PAPER PICK-UP ROLLER ***'Y
Two of these: RM1-0037-020: PAPER FEED ROLLER ***'Y

Hope This Helps

HP LASERJET 4 PAPER JAM 13

Rollers do not turn on!
Rollers are driven by a motor.
How is the printer telling you this information? (does the PC give an error, or the printer flash lights)

Does the paper make it out of the machine?

Is this "Rollers in the Back" the Fuser Unit?

is The Fuser unit is going bad,
if you open the back top cover, where it gets real hot, where the paper exit's, you should see two rollers, one orange, one either brown or black.. if that orange roller is damaged, has crease's, or covered with black toner, if the paper jams here alott, you probably need a new fuser unit. there is a pm kit available which includes the fuser and rollers, transfer, etc, which this site might have

Error 13-jam paper HP Laser 4+

HP LaserJet 4, 4m, 4 Plus and 4m Plus Series Printers - False Error Message 13 PAPER JAM ISSUE: After clearing all jammed paper from the HP LaserJet 4, 4m, 4 Plus, or 4m Plus series printer, the display still reads 13 Paper Jam . Even after cycling the power off and then back on, the error remains. SOLUTION: Open the rear door of the printer. There is a paper sensor near the upper right hand corner of the fusing assembly (just below the right edge of the long yellow warning sticker on the fuser) that can cause paper jam error messages even when there is no jammed paper in the printer. Toggle the thin black plastic lever up and down to make sure it is not stuck or sticky. The lever should be in the down position before closing the back of the printer. If the lever is stuck or missing, the printer will generate a false paper jam message. Hope it will help you !

Does it jam at the fuser when doing a single print?

These machines have a Maintenance kit required every 200 000 prints, these MK's include all feed rollers, a transfer roller and the entire fuser assy. To replace the kit fixes all issues I've seen in these printers besides when the cartridge affects print quality.

If it is jamming at the fuser on a single print done via the printer operations panel, and your paper is fresh, it could only be the feed roller having trouble gripping the paper or the fuser not turning/stuffed.

Feed Kit, I have my doubts as to this being your problem

Maintenance Kit Fixes 98% of the time

Was is noisy before it died?
I have seen a few with stuffed fuser drive gears but not many and customers could hear it wearing.

How many prints since last MK? via keypad print a configuration page, count is there ie pages since last maintenance xxxxxx

Paper jam problem in laser printer 4100

if this happens every time you need to replace the fuser. but there is a possibility it could be the main gear drive assembly, 9 times out of 10 it's the fuser. a gear on the fuser usually breaks a few teeth. the fuser is very easy to replace and is a part that will eventually need replacing on all printers.
