My GE over the oven microwave does not heat (1.5 years old). The heating and turntable stopped working at the same time. When you start it, it sounds fine, but nothing heats. You can hear a relay or...

It does sound like a relay malfunction or similar switch. Could be repaired but call for a quote or better yet, take it to a repair depot (probably cheaper).

Tip

DANGER WARNING! Potential Hazard if your microwave was working and now doesn't...

If you have this model microwave and it was working fine, then one day it stopped heating items placed inside there are a handful of different issues that could be the problem. In my case it was intermittent, over a period of a few days it would sometimes work (heat) and sometimes not. NO MATTER if this is what your's is doing or if it stopped heating all together. If you decide to let it dry out, or not use it for a while to see if it was a one time occurrence, or whatever the reason, the first time you put something in and probably for the next 10 times at least (this assumes it starts to work again), make sure you are right there with it while it is cooking. Don't assume you can put something in, go do something and come back when the timer is beeping. There is a chance (as this happened to me) that your food inside will CATCH FIRE! Normal food item placed inside, no metal, nothing different than the numerous times before when this had been cooked but when we smelled smoke we came running. Fortunately it started and finished inside the microwave but that's not a guarantee, it could spread. Play it safe. Never had a problem like this before and never heard of a microwave cooking something until it caught on fire (especially since the time entered for the cook was 30 seconds) but it did.

Sometimes oven does not work. when ya hit start it just clicks - the screen looks normal for about 2seconds & then shows the clock time.

Sounds like is what's happening:

Put in time, push start and unit runs for 2 seconds, relay clicks, unit goes off. Cook time on display goes off and clock time comes back.

That would be a bad upper interlock switch and charred connector. If so, see:

Bosch hmt8656gb microwave doesn't always start

The problem is in the keypad control board and usually means it must be replaced to fix the problem, and the part alone is expensive.

Microwave intermittently heats. Runs like it is working fine, but most of the time the food is still frozen. If I hit the front where the numbers are, I can sometimes get it to start heating again.

Hello sweetenfamil.

Smackin' it still works! For an intermittent problem like yours, I've often tapped around on the inside components to see if I could duplicate the complaint. And that's just what you've done, except from the outside. I would say you have either a failing door switch, or a loose connection. Put a cup of cold water inside, set the timer for 1 minute and start. The first thing you will hear is the cooling fan come on. After about 1-2 seconds you,ll hear a deeper tone/hum. That's the magnatron coming on. If you don't hear the mag, pull down slightly on the door. If nothing, lift up slightly the door.If either of these starts the water heating, it is probably a failing door switch, or bad switch alignment. If the door wiggles don't work and only hitting it starts the mag, then it's probably a loose connection that your jostling.
To check and tighten the connections, the unit would have to be taken down and the outer cover taken off ,as they're not all accessible from from the front. If it is the door switch or alignment, those can be accessed through the opening behind the control panel. But that will be a fairly long write, so try the door moves first and see if that is the fix. If it is, get back to me and I'll walk you through the rest. You will need a test meter and some hand tools.

Good luck.

I have a Whirlpool MH7130XEQ-1 microwave. Sometimes it doesn't start. Sometimes the timer works, but nothing else happens. Sometimes it works perfectly. What could be the problem. Other times the fan...

hello,

what this means is partial contact problem from the internal wire from the power supply.

however, what you need to do tofix up your oven back to live i to unscrew your your oven from the luck key (stroll) and then trace down the wire to the element i.e heat provider and the fan to see which wire has gone wrong .

please before you can carry out this function you will have to disconnect any form of power supply on the oven.

thank you and thanks for using fixya.

Microwave will not heat

Q - The microwave makes a loud "hum or buzz" noise but will not heat up the food?
A - 9 times out of 10 this is usually this is a bad magnetron, the other time is sometimes a bad high voltage diode. See components section.
Q - My microwave is running and sounds like it is working but will not heat up anything.
A - Many thing can do this but, common things are....loose high voltage wire.....poor solder joint on board.....magnetron.....power relay.....
Q - The microwave display counts down and the inside light is on,  but nothing is heating and the fan is not running.
A - This most commonly is a bad door switch, other possible problems are a faulty relay or solder joint on the power module, but a bad door switch is most common.
Q - The fan in my microwave oven is not running will this hurt my microwave?
A - YES, the fan cools the magnetron and electronics, take the microwave in for service, most fans are not too expensive to replace.
Q - My microwave blows the fuse inside itself as soon as I push the start button.
A - Usually a shorted high voltage capacitor...see components section.

NN-T990SA Panasonic Microwave Stopped Heating

This model uses an inverter to produce high voltage instead of a convential transformer system. While an inverter (switched-mode power supply) is more efficient from a power consumption standpoint, it is more complex, thus more statistically prone to fail. These should only be examined and worked on by someone who has the necessary technical qualifications. Seriously. Often the machine-soldered connections in a microwave inverter are too weak, so they eventually fail, especially if heat is high in the area. They sometimes fail catastrophically. When not catastrophically damaged, you may hear clicking or squealing and may smell an electrical odor, which is sometimes obscured by the cooling fan. Some manufacturers do not encourage or assist technicians to repair microwave inverters. Most offer the inverter as a whole assembly. But sometimes that is actually cheaper than the time and labor required to fix the old one. If a technician is willing and able to troubleshoot and repair the inverter to component level, it will may be expensive, but may be worth it, especially if he or she will resolder and reinforce connections as needed as part of a thorough repair. That could easily make your inverter beter than a new one! You might be able to get some verbal estimates if you call Panasonic-authorized repair shops and ask then specifically about inverter repair and inverter replacement costs for your model number.
