If you are able to produce a self test print, this is good since it illustrates that the cartridges are electrically stable...if you observe any 'E' or 'V' error states (i.e. "E xx" or "V162" for example), this may indicate there is possibly an internal electrical problem with one of the ink cartridges. Refer to your user guide if E/V error messages are displayed.
If, after following the suggested ink monitoring/level reset procedures, you still have an error condition which prohibits regular printing, then the ink cartridge probably has internal electrical damage (micro-electronics failure); such a failure is unrelated to the ink cartridge refilling process. Typically, when the cartridge fails the problem is 'masked' by the ink out/empty condition so it can be difficult to distinguish between the two. Many cartridges eventually do encounter problems or failures, especially after their original ink is gone and they are re-used, and this is often unrelated to the refill process (i.e. typically ~2 years from original manufacturing date). If, following a reset of the printer via the 'Stop/Resume' button, printing is permitted but the 'Ink Low' indicator continues to be lit then one of the inks cartridges may be suffering from marginal internal electrical performance - a potential failure of the cartridge may eventually occur which will prevent printing.
However, if your printer works routinely after inserting a brand new PGI-40 black ink cartridge in it, then this will confirm root cause of failure as being limited to the ink cartridge iteslf.

Regarding your Pixma MP830 printer inquiry (Canon PGI-5 / CLI-8 ink cartridges) and A200 error message, most likely the built-in PRINTHEAD is reaching it's end-of-life and may need to be replaced with a new one. Typically, the average printhead only produces ~4000 to 5000 pages before it electrically fails.

Replace ink cartridges if they are empty:
At the risk of stating the obvious (frequently not so obvious in the heat of the moment), find out if the ink cartridges are empty. When in doubt, try a new Canon original ink cartridge to see if this corrects the error.
A data cable of print head is open:
Did you just replace an ink cartridge? Perhaps you shifted a data cable to the print head.
Replace PRINTHEAD if it is damaged. Refer to Canon.com for replacement part.
Turn off the printer for some time
In other troubleshooting tips we have advised any inkjet printer not seeing regular usage to run a test print page. If you are making heavy usage of a Canon inkjet printer, consider giving it a break. This will avoid saturating the printhead with heat, prolonging useful service life.
Update the printer driver:
If you have followed all this with no success, from the printer menu (not computer) push the buttons to get a demo or test page. If everything is ok when you do this, however you get the service error code A200 when you try to produce something productive, odds are good, the print driver the computer is using has gone south (corrupt). When printing on a network, a corrupt printer driver can spread like an unwanted virus. Depending on the network, a driver that has gone rogue may be seen as an updated driver, which network will 'helpfully spread' as an update.

Mostly cartridges have a sensor in it. Once cartridge gets empty, the sensor show error. Then even if you refill the cartridge the symptom remains there showing empty cartridge. Try using new cartridges, not refilled cartridges..

It is registering a empty ink cartridge. If you had the cartridge refilled instea of replacing the cartridge that is what happened. The chip on the cartridge wont register the refilled ink and tells the printer it is empty.
As the printer companies do not support refilled cartridges,B cose these cartridges inbuilt sensors which is ink sensitive,Once empty they do not work. Try using new cartridge from canon it should work
lads ye're all I work in an 'ink place' and the u051 fault is a fault indicating that the offending cartridge is electrically dead, this is caused by the clever little program in the canon machine that writes info to the cartridge to make it'dead' so it cant be re-used ! possible solution is to get refilled before printer thinks it empty !!
