Your bios defaulted. The battery keeps: date, time, and bios settings. You need to get in your bios and change the settings to what they need to be. You can enter the bios by hitting DEL during boot.

BIOS CHECKSUM ERROR

Hello you just have to change the CMOS battery:

Press the lid to release the battery, and insert the new the same way.

1_13_2013_3_12_14_pm.jpg

The battery is a watch type CR 2032, and can be bought for a few bucks.
The batterys voltage is about 3 volts, when it looses it`s power, bios can`t remember it`s settings.
Change the battery, and setup the bios clock, date, bootsettings, and you are running again.
Take antistatic precautions when working on the mainboard.

Good luck

Drive A media error bios checksum error

your current bios is corrupted since the check-sum that was generated when your bios eprom was flashed with your current bios version doesn't match the check-sum that is generated as now, meaning that your bios changed for a few bits. you can fix this problem by re-flashing your bios with a good ROM file that you can download from your computer maker site or your motherboard bios maker site, also upgrading your bios with a newer version will take care of the issue as well.

Just bought this Samba 1845 system. Upon power on receive bios rom checksum error, insert system disk. Is the battery dead, bios need to be flashed again, please help

A BIOS sum check error is usually due to a near flat BIOS battery.
Replace the BIOS battery and configure the BIOS Date & Time setting etc.

Can nor remove bios password from a amilo laptop

Take out the battery for longer. It seemed to reset by indication of checksum error, but for an odd reason its still passworded. Remove battery and this time short the battery contacts on the motherboard and make sure no power or battery is in the machine. Then replace the battery and give it a shot.

I am getting 1 long beep and then 6 short ones

Hi canturob,
When a system reports a check sum error the bios is telling you the information stored from the last working boot does not match the current settings stored in the bios. Please power down your MSI system, unplug the power cord. Open the case & clear the bios. Location of JBAT1 on page 3 in manual.
Clear CMOS Jumper: JBAT1 page 10 in the manual. Remove the battery/cmos. Check it's voltage with a volt meter. It should test to 3volts DC. Anything less & the battery needs to be replaced.
While in the case re-check all data cables & power cables for good connection.
The MSI board uses the Award bios. Your current beep code of 1 long & six short is not a common beep code for the Award bios. See bios beep codes here: http://www.bioscentral.com/beepcodes/awardbeep.htm

If the battery checks out ok, you may need to update the bios. Go to MSI: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=utility&maincat_no=1&prod_no=205
To update your MSI bios (Option only if bios clear fails to resolves the check sum issue).

Good luck canturob!
