You either have a bad magnetron tube (5 or 10 year parts warranty item through GE Factory Service 1-800-432-2737 or www.geappliances.com) or a shorted high voltage rectifier. I think the light being out is a secondary problem.

Runs but has loud humming sound. Does not heat. Turntable, timer and lights work.

The diode that connects to the capacitor needs to be replaced. Once its replaced microwave will begin to heat again. (If it wasn't heating and wasn't making a humming noise, then your magnetron would need to be replaced). If you are thinking of doing it yourself and need instructions, i'll be glad to help.

Re: GE Profile Spacemaker XL1800 Loud humming sound when turned on. Please advise

I have the same problem. A repair person said that he thought it was the megatron (whatever that is) He suggested just using the microwave until it quits.

I press #1 and hit start the blower works and light comes on but no heat

Sounds like the magnetron circuit has failed. It is the part that generates the microwaves that heat the food. It often shorts out, and makes a loud humming or buzzing noise when it fails. It's not usually cost effect to replace since the part alone can cost as much as a new oven.

The unit is 3 years old and when I turn it on there is a loud hum. Theunit also does not heat but turns the turntable?

From your description it sounds like the magnetron has failed in this oven. That's the part the makes the microwaves to heat the food. It typically fails by shorting out and making a loud hum noise. It not usually worth fixing since the price of a replacement magnetron is almost as much as a new oven.

GE Profile Spacemaker XL1800 The microwave runs, the lights come on, timers goes, but it does not heat/cook and it makes a loud buzzing sound. What is wrong with it,and can I repair or trouble shoot it?

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. If it’s a loud hum/buzz sound then 90% it’s usually a bad magnetron and other times it’s a bad high voltage diode. However, from what you have described it seems to be the magnetron. Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

Spacemaker XL1800 (JVM1850CF001) This microwave stopped heating and started making a humming noise while trying to cook. I read some possible parts that will fix the problem. How difficult would a megatron...

look behind front control panel. there is a tech sheet. you can trouble shoot this problem, but you may need a voltmeter and an amp meter. it sounds to me like the high voltage transformer is bad or not working. it helps power the magatron. the hum is the mag trying to work, but it doe'nt have the high voltage it needs. this unit new sells for appr. $350.00.

GE Spacemaker XL1800 first no inside light followed by loud noise

I agree that the light is unrelated. 99.9% chance you have a bad magnetron tube but it is covered by either a 5 or 10 year parts warranty through GE. Call GE Factory Service at 1-800-432-2737 or schedule online at www.geappliances.com
