I found a post that mentioned to put a resister in the orange wires from the steering to bypass the resister in the key. Has anyone accomplished this or have additional into. TIA Stan

  • Stan Kline Dec 19, 2008

I shall have to look and see if the resistor is there. I've had the car for 10 years [pruchased used]. I shall buy a resistor that matches the key resistor in case the switch is really going bad. If it will not start I'll try the resistor before getting the car towed. Changed to a different key Thanks for the reply. I shall do nopthing rignt now.

Common problem. Ignore the lights unless the car really doesn't start.

The resistor bypass has probably already been done in this car. Thats probably why the light is coming on. That's why I said to leave it alone. If its not causing the car not to start why rock the boat?

This is a common problem in those cars. Back yard mechanics and lazy installers cut the PATS wires and put a resistor inline to bypass the PATS anti theft system when installing a remote start. The correct way is to use a relay to switch to the resistor only while remote starting and back to the PATS system when starting with a key.

Also, sometimes the connections on the switch will wear and the car won't read the resistance on the key. In this instance you can wire in the resistor to always bypass PATS. However, this will disable the factory security. The light on the dash will still work however, and may say "theft system problem." The car will still start because it is bypassed.

Therefore, you can pick one or more of the following:

    1. Do nothing. Ignore the warning. (my suggestion)

    2. Replace the ignition switch, or clean the contacts in the switch. (may fix it, may not)

    3. Re-hook the PATS wires and take out the resistor bypass. (May fix it, may cause your car not

    to start,

    Guy

Infiniti Anti theft system bypass with out a key

This is working fine. Its designed not to allow anyone (including you) from starting it without a key that contains a chip matching the cars electronics. You need to have a key chip from the car dealer to start the car.

My theft wont stop flashing on my ford explore so it will not start

Is your theft light flashing when starting with the key or, just with remote starter.

If the theft light is flashing during remote start, there is an issue with your bypass. If a key was used, Check the antenna ring around the ignition cylinder and adjust. Also, remove the key and make sure that it still starts the car at the ignition. If its a hardwired immoblizer bypass wired into the tx and rx at the transponder amp, check for power, ground and ground when running.

If the theft light is flashing when starting the vehicle with the key, gather all ingition keys that you have for the vehicle and begin to cycle them ignition. Start the vehicle with the first key, remove it, immediately start the vehicle with the second, repeat. Timing is essential for this reprogramming process to work. Not more than five seconds can elapse between switching keys.

HAVE A PRESTIGE APS686T REMOTE START ON A2003 FORD FOCUS.HAD 2 NEW KEYS PROGRAMMED. THE REMOTE START FLASHES MY THEFT LIGHT AND WILL NOT START. HOW DO I PROGRAMM THE PRESTIGE TO MY KEYS.

When you had the new keys programmed, the bypass was erased. More than likely, it was a key. Try this: put the first of the two new keys into the ignition, turn the ignition on. The theft light will light up, then go off. Immediately remove the key and put the second key into the ignition. Turn the ignition on, the theft light will come. When the theft goes out remote start the vehicle with the remote, quickly remove the key from the ignition. If the vehicle starts let it run for a few seconds and then shut the remote starter down with the brake. Wait a few seconds before testing the system.
If the above programming does not work the first time, try it again. It may take a few attempts because the process is time sensitive. You CANNOT allow too much time to pass between switching the keys.

93 nissan maxima anti theft will not allow me to start the car

The Nissan anti-theft system is disabled by unlocking the driver's door using the key. If the system fails to disarm using the key, there is a relay under the hood. It is in the fuse/relay compartment located near the driver's side headlight and it is labeled "Anti-Theft". You may need a pick tool or a small flat head screw driver because it is usually clipped in pretty tight. You should be able to start the car after removing the relay if you haven't already started the vehicle by disabling the system with the key.

Hi, i have an E46 2002 318ci Coupe 1995cc, and it fails to start, i have a spark, and i have fuel, could this have anything to do with the immmobiliser, or could it be the crankshaft sensor ? Thanks Dave

Dave, You may want to have your Anti-theft System checked. I had the same problem with my car and after a few parts and many dollars later. I found out it was the Anti-theft system that was causing the car not to start. I have not had any more problems once I have it removed. I hope this helps Good Luck.

Absolutely yes. There are three types of car alarms:
1. Standard/Active - where your alarm is in effective operation at time of theft.
2. Passive - whereby you have an alarm installed on your car, which at time of theft is not in effective operation
3. Immobiliser - whereby the key of your car must be used to start the ignition, otherwise it becomes immobilised

you can be sure that yours car alarm system is one of the above.
