Scanner mechanism needs lubrication?

I'm wondering how I can lubricate my scanner intake mechanism.  It's making noise when drawing documents in.

What can be done to fix my fi-6670?

You may need to lubricate the moving parts. I had a printer that was playing up like this and the bars that the print head moved on needed a tissue with a small quantity of machine oil to be rubbed on the bar to allow the print head to move freely. If all the scanners are the same age the lubrication they had may have worn off.

How to Clean Scanner Glass

Steps how to clean scanner glass

1. Unplug the power cord.
2. Clean the outer case with a cloth dampened with a mild detergent and water.
3. If the document table glass gets dirty, clean it with a soft dry cloth. If the glass is stained with grease or some other hard-to-remove material, use a small amount of glass cleaner and a soft cloth to remove it. Wipe off all remaining liquid.
4. Ensure that there is no dust on the glass of the document table. Dust can cause white spots in your scanned images.

*** CAUTION: Do not press on the document table glass too hard.

5. Be careful not to scratch or damage the document table glass, and do not use a hard or abrasive brush to clean it. A damaged glass surface can decrease the scanning quality.
6. Never use alcohol, paint thinner or corrosive solvent to clean the scanner. These chemicals can damage the scanner components as well as the case.
7. Be careful not to spill liquid into the scanner mechanism or electronic components. This could permanently damage the mechanism and circuitry.
8. Do not spray lubricants inside the scanner.
9. Never open the scanner case.

***NOTE: Wipe the inside of the document cover and the scanner's document table before scanning transparencies.

For months of non use, the bar that carries the light does not move (stuck up) when switched on.

You may need to open the scanner and re-lubricate the steel bars using a lubricant oil. It sounds like the scanner is seized.

Scanner won't move, just clicks

I had the same problem. I just followed the solution here:
http://www.fixya.com/support/t6219664-hp_6110
for "scanner failure". there are instructions on how to remove the document feeder and scanner glass, clean the glass and lubricate the rod that the scanner travels on. I followed the procedure and my printer/scanner now works fine.

When scanning on my Epson CX7800, the scanner grinds and makes a lot of noise. What do i have to do to fix this. Is there some kind of greasing or lubrication that needs to be done, or a realignment?

Hi

Check if there is a lock for the scanner, normally its on the right or left handside when you open the cover for scanner. try to toggle lock and position it to unlock., try scanning again....

Scanner failure

i fixed the problem, you need to have it off course the scanner is making that awful clicking noise because its stuck and need to be lubricated, just remember i know this is going to hurt but give the scanner a good bank on the right side of the scanner.....it will align it self back trust me it works....then lubricate it with of sewing machine oil or wd40 good luck

Squeaking

When the 'paper-dust' settles on the rubber rollers, they tend to squeak!. Blow/**** using a vaccum cleaner. Even after this if the squeaking persists, then apply 1 drop of a good lubricating oil, which is not very viscous. Watch oil is ideal. Ensure that only a drop is added just to lubricate. Excess oil can damage your documents and/or scanner. Ensure there is no bend in the roller. If there is a bend, you have to replace the roller.
