Power light blinking on nv53a gateway

Your Gateway laptop comes with a series of LED lights that alert you to the state of your computer. You'll notice there are blue, purple and red lights that either blink or display solidly. Each light, blinking or solid, has a different meaning. The blue blinking light on your laptop indicates that it is in Standby mode. Your laptop goes into Standby when you close its lid without shutting down the computer. To turn this light off, you'll need to take the computer out of Standby mode, and if you want to ensure that the blinking blue light does not return, shut down the computer after each use.

Open the lid of your Gateway laptop and press the power button. Once Windows loads, enter your password if required. The blue light will no longer be blinking because the computer is no longer in Standby mode. Shut the laptop off when you finish using it rather than simply closing the lid to stop the blue light from blinking again. Click "Start" from your Windows desktop and click "Shut down." Change your computer's power settings to keep if from going into Standby mode when you close the lid if you'd rather not shut down your computer every time you use it. Click "Start" and click "Control Panel." Click "System and Security" and then click "Power Options." Click "Choose what closing the lid does" from the list of options on the left side of the window. Select "Hibernate" from the drop-down lists under "On Battery" and "Plugged In." Click "Save Changes." Your laptop will now bypass Standby mode when you close the lid and it will enter Hibernate mode instead. Hope it helps.

Flashing power light indicates that there's a problem with the RAM. You're referring to a Standy by mode when you turned on the computer. If you have a spare ram you can try to use 1 to check if the RAM that you're using is faulty. Mobo is fine dont need to worry about that. No need to remove the CMOS battery. If you know someone who has the same ram or another computer you can try that. Usually it happens to Desktop Computers that monitor was on standby mode when they have a bad ram.

Thanks for using Fixya.

My Vaio will not come out of standby mode without having to be shut all the way down and rebooted, I have adjusted the power setings to ensure that nothing is preventing it from going into standby mode....

If the 10-sec thing doesn't work, then try this:
- unplug the mains power.
- remove the battery.
- leave for a minute.
- fit the battery back.
- plug in the mains lead.
- try switching the laptop on.

If it works, then run Windows Update to download the latest fixes to try & stop this happening again.

If it does happen again, try going to the website of the laptop's manufacturer & check on their Support pages to see if they have a fix for your problem.

Power is connected and on, but I cannot start my laptop

Hi. This may be stuck in hibernation or standby mode or the system might be stuck in mid shutdown. If the power light is flashing, try holding down the power button for at least 10 seconds until the flashing stops. Now press the power button again, briefly this time and hopefully it will boot. If this does not work, disconnect from the charger, remove the battery (usually an easy task, using a sliding clip underneath the laptop). Then replace the battery and charger and press the power button to start. If neither of these tips work, listen out for beeps from the motherboard. If you hear multiple beeps, then count them let me know how many. This will indicate a hardware problem.

Ok, I want this off my screen. If it is stuck in standby mode as you say, press and hold the power button until the computer goes "dead." Then turn it back on. If this doesn't work, unplug it and take the battery out for a while.

I'm still not sure about your question. Let me quess that by saying power/standy light goes to red...that mean your computer
is going into standby mode.!!!! So do it this way..on the left or right top corner of your notebook not the monitor, you should be having a small pin pointing up..I think that pin is use when you close the lid of your Laptop and it make your laptop goes into standby mode. When I mean goes into standby(sleep mode) the first think you can notice that your monitor light will be off and you can still see a very light image. So maybe this pin is stuck try to push it down for several times..
best of luck, takecare
