SOURCE: Surround Speakers stop working

More then likely unit has poor solder connections. Try lightly tapping on chassis to see if you can get audio to either cut on or off with the vibration, If you can unit has intermittent solder connections probably around power amp ic701 where most of the heat is generated. I have a PDF service manual if you need it for yourself or for a technician if you take it in for repair kstahl65@att.net

SOURCE: Speakers pop and rear speakers cut out of surround sound

Hi,
your problem is a bad solder connection of the relay linked to the lautspeaker sockets. I had the same problem and googled for the solution. Since I resoldered the pins everything is fine. That problem is well known and happens to a lot of Sony receivers.

I can send you a link with a detailed how-to-do solution with pictures, however it's written in german language. But you can use some online translators.

Have no sound on my surround sound sony

Could be a number of things try each and test!

  1. Make sure the MUTE function has not been activated.
  2. Try turning up the volume level.
  3. Check that there are no headphones connected.
  4. Try setting the Audio/Video (A/V) receiver to a different Surround Sound mode. IMPORTANT: Verify that the source you are playing is encoded with Surround Sound audio. If not, the audio will be very difficult to hear using a Surround Sound setting. Set Surround Sound to OFF when playing a source that is not encoded with a Surround Sound signal.
  5. Check each speaker to make sure they are properly connected to the A/V receiver.
  6. Perform a Test Tone function to verify if the speakers are working correctly.
  7. Verify all external audio sources are securely connected to the appropriate inputs on the A/V receiver. NOTE: If the audio is being sent from a television to the A/V receiver, then it may be necessary to disable the internal speakers of the TV or set the audio output of the TV to FIXED or VARIABLE. If the audio output of the TV is set to VARIABLE, then you will need to increase the volume level of the TV.
  8. Make sure the correct audio input is selected on the A/V receiver.
  9. Confirm what type of HDMI devices are connected to the A/V receiver and then check the following:

    1. Test each one of the HDMI inputs on the A/V receiver to confirm that all of the inputs for the A/V receiver are working.
    2. Try a couple of different HDMI cables to verify there is not a bad set of cables.
    3. Unplug the video source from the A/V receiver and connect the source directly to the television. If there is still a problem with the audio, continue to the next step. If connecting the source to the TV corrects the sound issue, service will be needed on the A/V receiver.
  10. Verify the DEMO (demonstration) mode is not active.
  11. Change the ATT (attenuate) setting. NOTE: The procedure to change the ATT feature varies by model.
  12. Reset the A/V receiver back to factory specifications.

I hooked up my newly purchased Sony BDP-S560 with HDMI to my projector for video, optical cable to my Yamaha RX-V750 for audio. I tried several audio setting with the BDP-S560. However,I cannot get any...

It sounds like the BDP unit is set to downmix PCM to the Optical Digital Audio output (the default). You need to change it to something like Dolby Digital. Crack the manual and look at all the digital audio settings you need to choose.

The rear speaker decoding has to be enabled for them to function, regardless of the media. Enter the speaker setup menu and choose "yes" for the rear surround speaker decoding.

We have a Sony Trinitron and a Sony STR-K670P. We use to have it hooked up to a DVR, but now we went down to basic cable. I can't seem to get sound to come through my surround system. Any advise out there?...

if your trying to use the dvr still your probably not connecting it all properly. make sure that. having a sony trinitron you have alot of connections on the back. if you connect all of the accessories that you have on your tv directly into each input and use the tvs main output connection to connect straight to your surround sound. this should fix your problem. plus you wont have a bunch of stuff hooked up to your surround sound receiver

is the center speaker turned up in the reciever speaker settings? each speaker can be adjusted to a level that is higher or lower or all the same as the rest. also is the dolby digital turned on in the reciever settings? and changing the surround sound pre set sounds can also improve the type of audio you are listening to in 6.1 surround sound

No sound from back speakers

Remember the rear speakers are called surround... Did you select surround on the unit? if it says stereo then you will only get fronts, select surround to get the rest.
