Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

Pulling mechanisim seems to be jammed

The pulling mechanism which attaches to the garage door moves a couple inches then stops....even with the door not attached. The motor still runs. Motor will not stop until I manually move the mechanism to either end. It seems to be sticking on the track, but I don't know why.

You have a stripped gear on opener. Take off cover and the bottom will be covered in white shavings. Replace with gear and sprocket assembly

After power outage, we had to pull the release cord to disengage the opener. Now that the power is back on, how do you re-engage the door with the unit so it will function?

These usually attach to each other with a slide lock. What you can do is command the door to stop within a few inches of the cord release. Then lift the door without pulling the cord until the door engages to the lift. It may take a little pressure and repeated cycles to get it to engage. Be sure that the cord release is not stuck. Cycle it a few times by pulling on the cord and watch the lock mechanism to make sure it is operating correctly. Your door is adjusted so that the opener senses a little pressure on the door to make sure it is completely closed. So if you just try to open and close the traveler may not quite make it to the disconnect. That is why you need to engage them manually. I hope this helps you. This is a real common problem with garage door openers.

Garage door opener?

Limit switches may need adjusting. If it is a roll up type door, check the coil spring. It is usually mounted on the header above the door frame and will have shafts going out to the right and left with pulleys and cables attached at the outside edges attached to the door itself. The spring is what gives the mechanism the strength to lift the door. If the spring breaks, the motor will not have the power to lift the door completely.

Garage door moves few inches and stops, springs are fine, sensros are fine.

If it is not blinking when it stops, then the capacitor is blown. Replace the capacitor and it should resolve the problem.

Sears garage door opener model 139.53919

The torsion springs might need adjustment.

Pull emergency release, and manually lift door to half-open position.

When you release the door, it should stay in place.
If it almost "slams" down, the springs are not doing their job to "balance" the weight of the door itself.
The opener isn't designed to overcome the weight of the unsupported (no spring assist) door.

Over time, the springs take a "set", and might need a readjustment
The springs are under tremendous pressure loading, and can even kill someone if they do not know what they are doing!
