IE 7 problems with missing tabs, not being able to download

A few months ago we made the mistake of downloading ie 7.Ever since then everything has changed.I looked alot online to fix the problems with no luck and I was hoping you could help. The favorites tab is missing and is replaced with a bookmark one(we use Yahoo as our homepage).I tried reinstalling and actually that is the only thing we can delete and redownload with no changes.I tried a system restore but it will not allow it.I tried going into the internet connections and it won't do anything when I click on it.All the way at the top of the toolbar where it's blue is blank and so is the very bottom except for showing an e.We use to have something pop up when we would download it,it showed up underneath the toolbar. The name of it I cannot remember.I think it was for downloads. From time to time I hear it but nothing shows.I ran virus software and nothing came up.We got a new windows search that shows the history but no way of deleting it.There are a few tabs missing from the toolbar, general or tools. When we try to download anything we get a thank you page telling what to do in order to download it.Usually a little window appears at the top left corner but within a few seconds disappears. If you could offer any help we would appreciate.

Look on the right hand side of the screen, do you see a tab called tools? If not does the menu link show up on the top under the address bar?

This fix works for both missing IE7 tabs and missing Desktop icon in Display Properties. Good luck!

Open up a command prompt (cmd.exe from "run") and enter the following;

REG ADD "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer" /V ClassicShell /T REG_DWORD /F /D 0

This should sort out your problem.

Uninstall IE7 from the Control Panel -> Classic View -> Add/Remove Programs. If it doesn't have a "Remove" option then I'm sure you've also installed SP3. Just uninstall SP3 before you do IE7.

Please rate this it helps.

Click the Yahoo! Toolbar "pencil" icon and select "Toolbar Options".
Open the the Yahoo Toolbar menu and check the "Enable Tabbed Browsing" box. Click OK and you should have tabbed browsing back.

You can also upgrade to IE7 or download Mozilla Firefox and use that as your prefered browser.

1st: can't open gmail w ie; 2nd ie keeps shutting down

Hi, It seems that you might have installed some addons for IE and now you are in the situation. All you need to do it open Internet Options from Control Panel. Then in Advanced tab, click on Reset. Resetting Internet Explorer resets all settings to manufactures' default and in the process you will lose all saved passwords on Internet Explorer and you will have to re-enter them again upon use. Once done, fire-up IE and click on Tools menu > Internet Options and reset IE from Advanced tab once again from here as well. It means you will reset IE two times, first from Control Panel and then from IE window itself. Once done try to use IE and see the result.
However there are few addons available with Mozilla Firefox that resembles IE inside and opens all webpages that requires IE only. Download Coral IE Tab from:
Installed the addons and switch the view to IE to open all webpages that supports IE only.

Can't download

Downgrade to IE 7. Also try using another browser. Such as the Google Chrome. Other wise try downloading the Internet Download Manager.

Uninstall the IE 8. From Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.

REinstall the IE 7 From Contol Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Add or remove Windows Components > Check the IE box. Click next and install.

How can i restore my internet explorer to the original files? Like everything? I had downloaded an addon for IE months ago and ever since it has never worked. I want to restore the IE to original files. I...

A possible solution is to disable/remove the add-on. In IE8 click the tools menu. Select manage add-on.
In the window that opens look for a drop-down list headed with Show.
The selections available are
  1. All add-ons.
  2. Currently loaded add-ons
  3. Run without permission
  4. Downloaded controls
Select All add-ons to display all of them. Find the culprit, higlight it and press the button (at the bottom) disable.
Check also the InPrivate filtering.

You can also Click the Tools Menu>>Internet option >>Advanced Tab. (see picture)

Click the Reset Advanced setting button and the Reset button below.
Restart the browser.
A suggestion: install firefox. If you have a problem with one browser you can use the other and not get stuck.

Do you have addons in your IE browser, if so right click on the IE Icon and click start in NO ADDON MODE and see if the behavior stops.
also, the .net framework can cause issues you may want to reinstall the .net 3 update individually and see if your IE settles down.
There are so many things that can cause problems in IE. especially when you update it, seems everytime there are problems.

WIFi problems with my DELL XPS m1330

This has happened to me in a similar way; and mine was to where I had a connection, and yahoo messenger, itunes, other things would open; but when I would try to open internet explorer, it would hang, then look like it was opening, then go right to a cannot connect page. What I found out is that I had gotten some serious trojans/virus from a download. After everything that I could think of, ie system restore, redownloading IE 8, running antivirus and removing some of the trojans, and few other things, I failed, and so came to the conclusion that I had to just reformat the hard drive, wipe it clean, and then reinstall my operating system. After I did that, which was like 8 months ago, I haven't had one problem with connecting to any page. No problem at all. I hope this helps.
