Question about Maxell HP/NC-III Consumer Headphones

Difficult to open battery pocket in Maxell's HP/NC-IV head phones

With the Maxell HP/NC-IV headphones, they have done such a nice job of streamlining/disguising the battery compartment that it is next to impossible to ever get it open again to change the batteries (assuming you, also, tossed your directions after the first installation).  Short of a bigger hammer- does anyone have any suggestions?

Put both thumbs in the indentations on the LEFT headphone cup and pull down.  Hard.
The silver "Maxell" oval (along with the lower third of the headphone cup cover) will come off, revealing the two AAA batteries.

CTIMike's description got me going in the right direction. But I could not get it to open using my thumbs. I had to stick a butter knife very gently into the groove that would form a line under the word "Maxell" if it were continuous. I then very gently twisted the knife to push the bottom third of the cover in the down direction. Then, as CTIMike said "The silver "Maxell" oval (along with the lower third of the headphone cup cover) will come off".

Push your thumbnail into the groove at the top of the Chrome oval, above the silver oval with Maxell on it. That is where the catch is. The battery cover comes off easily like this.

Pushing at the top of the Chrome Oval was the key. Thank you.

My v2 headphones stopped working there is nothing visibly wrong with them what happened? These were my grandpas so I really want them to work again

The wires in the cable are the weak point, they can break and you cant see the break, the head phones then don't work. Depending on who makes them, the repair could be difficult to perform. If the head phones are sealed plastic, they are hard to open to check the cable and change it.

Left earpiece intermittent.

The electronic components are defective. It is not worth repairing unless you paid a lot of money for the head phones.

Right head phone in op

It looks like you will need to open them up and look for a loose wire in both earpieces. Also, while there, check to see if the batteries are in correctly relating to polarity!

Have Maxwell NC-IV headphones and cannot get cover off to change batteries. I have used all the pressure I have and it still doesn't work.Any ideas or suggestions? Details, PLEASE! C C COOK

I slide a pocket knife blade along the top of the chrome oval on the L headphone. It pops right open without hardily any pressure at all.
Some people can push in and down with their thumbs but due to arthritis I can't make that work.

Hi, My Maxell HP/NC-111 jack has just failed. I purchased a new jack but have tried every combination possible to wire it up but no sound at all. There are 3 wires from the headphones. A grey one, A blue...

You may have another break in your cord further up. You can test by listening through the headphones while you touch the bare wires to a battery. preferably a flashlight battery 1.5 volts briefly. You will here the quiet pop or crackle in each ear as you get the connection. Right down the combinations and then solder the new plug on.
