You have to go buy a valid copy of Windows.
This is another reason to support and buy from legitimate computer repair shops. I had a customer once that wanted Windows 2000 and Full Office. I quoted her about $400-500. She said this other shop said they could do it for $120. I said they left out one word...."They could do it ILLEGALLY for $120.". I refused to do it for her, she went to the other shop. Now if a shop will cheat Microsoft out of money, don't you think they will cheat you out of money also? If they don't have ethics in dealing with you, they won't have ethics in working on your stuff. I have heard horror stories of other shops looking at and copying pictures off of other people computers that were in the shop for repair, chatting with the computer owners friends on AOL, messenger, etc.I knew other shops in town that were using the same keycodes for the same installation for XP. When people had problems with their computers Microsoft would not help them because they had illegal copies. So do yourself a favor and buy legitimate stuff, it may cost more up front but will save you headaches down the road. I am not saying that you did anything wrong, some people buy stuff from friends or they buy the used computers some shops sell. If you have been ripped off like this, then avoid those people in the future.

It means that you most likely have a illegal copy of windows, which didn't pass the test to see if its a legal copy or not, so they have labeled it as illegal - Counterfeited software / stolen software / copyed software / duplicated.
or it may also mean that you havent activated windows and you didn't use the correct code in the side or in the back / front of the pc case.

You have two choices,

eitherr contacting migrosoft and purchasing a genuine copy, or having Windows reinstalled at a local repair shop.
I suggest also contacting the seller and asking for an explanation.

What is victim of software counterfering

counterfeit: made to look like the original of something, usually for dishonest or illegal purposes.
If you're being victim of software conterfeit, that means that your software is illegal.
This error is very common due to Windos Genuine Advantage (WGA).
You just need a WGA remover to fix it.
You can download one from here

Victim of software counterfeiting how to rectify it

Incase you are a victim of counterfeit product of Microsoft then :-
  1. Purchase a valid Windows XP cd-key online from Microsoft.
  2. If you can produce high-quality counterfeit media, along with a proof of purchase, you can get a free replacement key from Microsoft.
  3. Contact your reseller for redress.
  4. Purchase Windows XP from a local OEM reseller.
  5. Purchase Windows XP at a retail location.
Notice the word "Purchase" appears in three of those five options. There's almost no way to finagle a free cd-key out of this.
Counterfeit software can come from a number of sources. It's important to use a reputable reseller when purchasing software or PCs that come with software.
And, now the good part :-
Microsoft also offers several options to help victims of counterfeit software obtain a legal copy of Windows, including a complimentary offer for victims who were deceived into buying highy quality counterfeit copies
To help customers who unknowingly purchased a counterfeit version of Windows XP, Microsoft has created two genuine Windows offers for those who qualify:
  • Complimentary offer: Microsoft will make a complimentary copy of Windows XP available to customers who have been sold counterfeit Windows. Customers will be required to submit a proof of purchase, the counterfeit CD, and a counterfeit report with details of their purchase. Only high-quality counterfeit Windows will qualify for the complimentary offer.
  • Electronic License Key Offer: Microsoft will offer an alternative for customers who find out via the WGA validation process that they are not running genuine Windows, but do not qualify for, or choose not to take advantage of, the complimentary offer. These customers will be able to license a Windows Genuine Advantage Kit for Windows XP directly from Microsoft for a special on-line purchase price. The Windows Genuine Advantage Kit for Windows XP will include a new 25-character Product Key and a Windows Product Key Update tool that will allow customers to convert their counterfeit copy to genuine Windows XP electronically.

HI,

That message ("you may be a victim of software counterfeiting") is displayed when your Windows serial number is being used by someone else. If your copy of Windows is legitimate, try contacting Microsoft support.

Take care,

OK, This is a notice from Microsoft. The validation tool thinks your Version is a counterfeit. It is not a virus, but is still a headache no less. It will not go away, we can't shut it off. The only way to fix is to reload with a valid code or call Microsoft to report it. I hope this helps :)
