This worked for me:

  1. Turn off the printer ( "Power" button).
  2. Hold the button "Resume" (red triangle in a circle), click and hold "Power" - an indicator light green.
  3. While holding the "Power" button, release the button "Resume".
  4. Not releasing the "Power" button, double click "Resume" and release both buttons.
  5. Four times click "Resume"
  6. Once you click "Power", to confirm the selected action (reset counter absorber). Click "Power" again to turn the printer off and once again to turn it on.

Your ink absorber pad is full and needs to be replaced.
Canon will sell you a new ink absorber pad.
or you can take it in for repair for about $60 or try to do it yourself.

With the cost of the repair, I would try it myself. For $60 you can get a new printer it it doesn't work.

Remove the pad and take it out (do this outside, with disposable gloves and old clothes), wash it out with a hose, let it dry completely, and reinstall it in the printer.

But you will still need the code to reset the printer. I have not found it yet for your machine.

This is not your model, but it might work:
Canon MPC190
Reset Waste Ink
1) Enter SERVICE MODE.
By pressing Menu Copy Scan Copy Copy
2) Select TEST MODE.
3) Select [8] PRINTER TEST in TEST MODE.
4) Select 3. [EEPROM CLEAR].
5) Select 0. [INK COUNT].
6) Press the [Set] key.
7) Press the [Stop/Reset] key (returning to the state of 3)), and then press the [ON/OFF] key.

There is you problem!
You can refill it to a serten level, after that the chip on the cardridge whon recognize the filling any more.
Time to buy a original cardridge and replace that one.
Then you can refil the new one again until the chip says stop again

Good luck to you M8!

How do i open the printer to get to the waste

Getting to the pads won't help, they are under the print engine and cover the whole bottom of the printer. The cost for a new set is around $10.00, but after changing you need to get to the service mode to reset the counter, and only Canon shops can do that.

Check printer 5B00

Hi guys,
Error code 5B00 indicates absorber full error. To fix this problem you need to reset waste absorber counter and replace waste ink absorber. Unfortunately you don't write the printer model so I cannot write reset procedure here.

I have a message "service required" 5B00 on the screen - Printer - Canon MP180. When I try to print, I get "Ink absorber full" on my computer screen. What do I do?

You need a new pad and you need to reset your code.
Codes are dependent on your model.
