Blue discoloration I have a sony lcd projection tv. When Im watching tv, theres this blue discoloration in the background. When the screen shows bright pictures thats when you can see that blue background. If theres no bright picture, the tv looks regular. If I was watching a movie with a sky background or a movie with snow, you would be able to see that blue discoloration in the background. How do I fix the problem?

I have replaced alot of these light engines for this problem. Yesterday I received a letter from Sony saying they are going to give an additional warranty to have the optics replaced. I just checked, your model is one of them and Sony is replacing the optic block under an extended warranty, regardless of the purchase date, until the end of October 2008. Contact Sony for an Authorized Service Center in your area or go to this site to read about it: http://esupport.sony.com/perl/news-item.pl?news_id=185&mdl=KDSR60XBR1 Have this repair done on your set and it should save you about $1300.00 to $1500.00 on the repair. Hope this helps.

Confirm the actual model number as the one indicated in the title is not HD.

Some of these sets had bad picture tubes that on a black screen or blank video input may in your case show faint curved lines and or some color (red, green or blue) present in the background.

If this is the case there is a fairly simple way to attempt to adjust something for this--not in the customer menu but fairly easy to get at and try.

Most of these sets were KP51ws500, 57500 etc.

Hi,If there's any discoloration, pixilation or hues on the tv it will be an issue w the light engine's 3 lcd chips. This link explains how the lcd technology works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLLHnQ4y-wo Basically there's 3 LCD chips that create the colors and picture by blending together all when the light of the lamp goes through them. When they start to melt they will start to show the symptoms. You will need to replace the 3 lcd chips or replace the light engine.Good luck and God bless your house!

Tv just turns off while watching it the screen goes blue than turns off

This is one of a group of sets (KP-57ws500) that had bad picture tubes---all of them had this trouble.

The picture tubes are no longer available from Sony--only available on a rebuild basis from another company--very expensive and usually not worth doing---blue is most common tube to show trouble.

The set is shutting down because if the screen goes bright blue---it pulls too much current and the set goes into protective shutdown.

There is one fairly easy thing that you may be able to do-----I have done it before.

What it entails is getting at the Screen/ Focus control block and turning the Blue Screen control down--if it works it may just buy you some time but I have seen several sets where it allowed the set to have some more life.

Usually if the set was working the way this problem begins is you on a blank video input notice a slight blue color in the background with some faint curved lines visable.

If you want to attempt to do the adjustment--let me know and I will tell you how.

I am here to help people----I have seen over 100 of these Sony sets with this problem---replaced tubes in many of them when they were new or under warranty.

It sounds like you have a bad Blue Polarizer in the light path. I'm sorry but that is something you will have to contact a service center for. It's not something you'll be able to do yourself, I'm sorry, but that's the best advice I can give you.

Sony 60" LCD projection TV has yellow screen discoloration

I would suggest to try to get this TV fix while still under warranty. Normally the manufacturers give one year.
In regards to the discoloration, there is not much you do but to let the Sony authorized repair center knows about it so they can fix it. Ask them if their work is guarantee as well for how long.
Good Luck.
