Power problem My camera is dead even though it has a fully charged battery inside. You slide the cover back and nothing happens. We tried a different fully charged battery and still nothing. Any ideas?

I slide the cover open and nothing happens despite the battery being fully charged. There is no noise or anything. I heard this could be a fuse? Is this something I can buy and replace?

Have a similar problem. One night working great. Next morning with freshly charged batteries - nothing happens. No sound, no movement, no low battery warning the night before, and no review capacity.... lights out.
The Geeks at Best Buy say the internal battery may have gone.

I have the same power problem with the Canon PowerShot S30. The battery is full charge. But nothing happens when I open the front cover.

Same problem. Happened a few weeks ago.  One day it was working, then one day it wasn't.  Is it weird coincidence that everyone is posting this power problem now, after ~5 years of owning the camera?

My camera turns on with sound, but the screen is black. I can view the pictures that are already on the card.

Oddly enough, as I was looking at this thread, I was fiddling with the camera and it decided to turn on when I opened the lens cover. Obvoiusly, 2 minutes earlier, it wouldn't come on, as that was why I looking at the forum!
sorry, I don't have a solution, but I suspect there's an issue with the contacts in the lens cover. Every moving part will have an Achille's Heel, I suppose.

Nothing hapened when I open the door. In fact I was not abble to open completly the door because a plastic gear on the slide behind the door was broken. If you have the same problem just remove the gear to freedom the door and it will start again. The gear is more to get a nice feeling when opening the door than to make it works.

As I use to say... it works for me !

Can you preview existing pictures? If not, then there's an electrical problem in there somewhere.

A possible solution for this problem is to throw the thing in the garbage! And buy another brand that doesn't build in obsolescence. We've hardly used this camera it's taken good pictures for as long as we've had it but we've really only gotten about 500 photos out of it. When you think about the cost per photo considering we spent almost 400 bucks on it. Well, you do the math. I'll not buy another canon. I'll spend less money for similar quality and if it breaks like this piece of crap, I will not feel as ripped off!

Actually, I contacted Canon, Sent my camera in because the Tech Solutions Rep originally suggested that it might cost $20-$40 dollars to repair. That more than likely, it is the Switch that operates the on off function of the camera.

I sent the camera in and received an E-mail from Canon stating that the charge for repair would be $159.00. When I complained that the first rep told me $20-$40 bucs, he said there is no such price, the minimum repair on the PowerShot s30 is $159.00. I lost money on shipping and got my dead camera back as I refused to pay that ridiculous amount for an old camera when I could add a hundred more to that price and have something much better. Toss it Folks it's an Expensive Paper Weight - Soon to be Tech Fossil.

First listen closely when you open the cover. If you can hear a grinding or whining noise then you are dealin gwith a jammed lens. If nothing at all happens then either the main switchis broken or a fuse has failed. Any of these problems are not easily solved at home. Sorry.

Power problem

Try taking out your batteries and then taking out your memory card. Put back in batteries. Turn on camera.

If this works, just put back in your memory card and try again. Sometimes the memory card hangs and you need to pop it in and out.

Camera will not power up, no lights no beeps nothing, the battery is fully charged and I have replaced the CMAOS battery

Is this an older camera? Is the battery the original? Has it been unused for a lengthy period of time and allowed to completely discharge? It may be dead even though it registers charged in the charger. Clean the battery contacts in the camera with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol.

Canon 400d will not switch on

it might be a problem with the battery connectors.
They might not touch the battery well.
another reason, it might be the battery is dead or the power button is not working.

My Cannon G9 digital camera wont power up even though I have a fully charged battery?

This is usually from a loose screw inside the camera, a screw inside the camera can come loose and cause a short which is very common on the G9. If you go to: all they deal with is service for the Canon Powershots. They're great if you need a hand with one of these and they automatically do the no power correction on the G7's and the G9's they service which is nice. They are about the least expensive out there at $89 and they include the service and the shipping back. The best part, they do excellent work which is a must for me. Hope that helps you some.

Dead batteries when fully charged

Does it work with "no batteries" - only plugged into power source? check your usb cable by trying to power up something else.

The battery is removable and the camera came with a charger that you connect the battery to and plug into a household socket.
