Question about Husqvarna Lawn Tractor - 54in. Deck, 26 HP, Model# LGT2654
I live in the midwest and use my tractor for plowing snow and when it gets around 15 degrees or colder the engine runs continuously at very high RPM from ignition on to shut off. The throttle control seems to be moving ok but has no effect at all on the RPM. It will slow a little when under load but still well above normal weather RPM. I have yet to tear into it but my first inclination is a sticky governor. A friend suggested adding a little isopropol to the fuel. Which I did but the whether has since gone up to where it runs normal. Because its an intermittent problem it would be helpful to get some opinons about where to look for the problem because I will be working on it in a garage where it will be warm enough to not experience the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The engine is icing up. Kawasaki may have a winter kit available. I have solved the problem it the past on other engines by partial blocking the air intake screen with cardboard. Cut a piece of heavy card board the same size as the intake screen cut a few pizza slice shapes out and zip tie it to screen. remove in the spring. refer to owners manual if you are unsure what the air intake screen is.
