Question about HP Pavilion dv9000z Notebook

1 Answer

Compaq nx9005 I have a Compaq nx9005 - it has been fine for a number of years. Just recently I noticed if I touched it on the top right hand side of the machine (just above the plug for the PS2 mouse) that it powered off! Even pushingb the door of the CD/DVD will do it. I then had to remove the power adaptor and unplug it from the wall - wait a few minutes and then power it all up again. Now I find that I cannot even power it up at all - everytime I touch the power-on button - on the left hand side, I see the 'on/off' and disk lights flash and thats it! I have already tried removing the CD/DVD and memory! I can only get the power light to come on when I remove the battery and then it flashes (which I think it should do), once I have pressed the power button I have to disconnect the power lead, wait a few seconds and then plug it in to even get the light to flash! I'm thinking the motherboard must have a fault but would welcome any thoughts anyone might have. I nearly forgot - every so often(about 1% of the time) I can get it to startup, it boots into the BIOS and then starts to loads Windows XP but then just switches off, so I dont believe its a software problem. Sorry it's all a bit garbled!!

How to unmute the microphone on compaq nx9005

On the desktop screen, go to the bottom right hand side where you will see several icons along with the time. Look for an icon that represents a speaker. Or simply hover the icons and locate an con that reads conexant audio manager or something of the sort. Once you open the manager, you have the several options. click on microphone. Here you can adjust your microphone volume as well as mute/unmute your microphone.

My HP Compaq N6120 laptop freezes when the bottom of the case is touched.

If you press down on the case just to the right of the trackpad Or if you hold the right side down with you right hand and gently lift the left corner of the machine and it starts to work again... You have what is called the nc6120 Flex/Tilt issue.

The solder points on big Intel 915GME chip on the motherboard is loose.

Sometimes using a heat gun to refloat the chip works.
Not always. If you order a replacement board from HP
you will notice there is lots of red or white epoxy around that chip
to keep it held in place.

More information about the Flex/Tilt issue can be found at:

Does a HP compaq nx9005 havw wireless built in.?

Hello, Ashley.

The HP Compaq NX9005 Business Notebook most certainly does have wireless capability.

There is a wireless on/off button, on the right-front of your notebook, just below the wireless LED.

Hope this helps.

Right side of screen flickering (top to bottom)

Your laptop screen has a thin ribbon connecting the screen to the mainboard. after upening and closing your screem these pins sometimes breaks causeings streaks in your screen. My compaq note book has to be resoldered because of a lose connection on back for power. your gonna want to get that fixed before you fry your board. costs about 50 bucks for an hours work to get that solderd. It could be linked to your flikering issue..

Computer freezes...but not in the normal manner

The intel chip that is under the touch pad is the culprit. If you open the laptop by removing the keyboard, you will notice the chip just under the cover. i have tried putting pressure on it with an eraser and got some results. Mackay Rigava
