Blank/Black Laptop screen on HP DV-6000 notebook

Shutdown the laptop lastnight and when i went to use it tonight, it doesn't work. The screen is blank. black. it has nothing going on. Blue lights are on and power ac blue light is on. The computer is so quiet, it sounds like it is not running, it will read a CD if inserted and fan has started but turns of straight away. I have tried holding power button down, both without battery and AC connected and with, and nothing seems to fix it. I have taken RAM out and re-placed. Still not working. Please help!! Really annoyed as I just bought a brand new HP and feeling really annoyed at picking a HP again!

I have the same black screen and blue lights. I just spoke with HP support and apparently the hp pavilion dv6000 is covered by extended service enhancement because of the problem. Contact HP.

This was originally a solution for a dv2000 but it may be true for your model too. If you don't feel like sending it in for repair.

This particular model of Hp was shipped with a bad inverter. You can check out the link below to another forum with users with the same problem.
http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?s=2d48836d2fa4bb298f0d0f8261490630&t=108320&page=2

In order to fix the problem you just need to discount the old inverter and it should work according to what I have read. The link to the manual is listed below.

Your symptoms sound like a known issue with the dv6000 series of HP laptops. Rather than go into a lot of detail here, let me just refer you to the HP web page about the problem. If it fits your situation, call HP at the special number shown on the page. They've been replacing motherboards even for units more than a year old. My son just got his back yesterday, and so far so good. I hope this helps.

Any idea what's wrong with my laptop? The screen went black and wont turn on anymore. Was using it yesterday when it suddenly went black. Took the battery out and put it back a few times but all the...

Is the laptop an HP DV 2000, 6000, or 9000 series? If so you could be one of the many afflicted with a problem that caused many HP laptops to go poof. There was an issue with these series of laptops motherboards causing the screen to go black, and then not power on. There was a recall that made the manufacturers warranty a year longer (from 1 to 2 years) but that has long since passed. Since it is the main board of the computer, it's a several hundred dollar repair and is typically more expensive to repair than it would be to buy a new laptop.

Regardless of whether or not this is your issue, I would recommend re-seating the RAM or having someone who is familiar with computers do this for you. Basically by removing and re-inserting the RAM in the computer you ensure there is a snug fit as this could cause a similar problem.

connect an external monitor on the unit and press the key combination to get the video on an  external monitor this is different on some laptops on HP dv 6000 for example it is FN F4 if external monitor work the problem is with your laptop display if the external monitor doesn't work its probebly your systemboard als check your memory.

Lost screen

you need to find out if your screen is bad. does it sounds like it booting up and you hear the sound when windows boots up? you can also try connecting your laptop to an external monitor. if you see a display on your monitor, then you screen on the notebook will need to be replaced, if you dont see a display on the external monitor, then you have most likely a bad mainboard , you might have a bad ram module too. but most likely the main board

thank you
