Hello, the same thing is happening with my oven; it's also letting gas out, but not igniting it. It has also stopped heating right in the middle of baking a cake; the oven stayed on it just stopped heating up and kept letting gas out. I'm with the fire dept and almost had to call them to come with the big exhaust fans to air out my house. I can't afford to get a new oven right now, how can I fix this oven? please help me!!!!

The red glow is the ignitor, but it does not work on temperature it works off of amperage draw to allow the oven saftey valve to open.It must pull between 3.2-3.7 amps[on flat ignitors-most common ones used today, older round ignitors would be 2.8-3.2 amps] in order to open valve, thus allowing gas to be ignited.

Most modern gas ovens and many broilers use a "glow-bar" style of igniter that glows red-hot to ignite the gas. If the igniter doesn't reach the proper temperature, the gas valve won't open. You may need to replace the igniter.

servicetech is right. The igniter needs to be replaced. I had the exact same thing happen to my oven. The igniter would glow, but after tested, it did not have enough amperage to actually ignite the gas, so the gas kept running with no ignition.

if the ignitor is glowing like you said it seems like the gas valve isnt opening to let the gas flow.you should make sure the line coming from the main gas diconnect is properly connected.the gas valve could be faulty or no voltage to the coil of the valve.
