Hi...there,
Well, new could be defective too... You're probably got a busted backlight inverter problems... Send it back for repaired. Happy Holidays!

Is it showing any flashing indicator lights? If not:
....You have to try a different vga cable if it is not built into the monitor, and make sure the pc will drive a known working monitor ok from the same port. If the pc is ok and there are no fault lights showing I would suspect the vga cable

After a while the monitor will fall asleep and wont go back on. I have to restart the computer in order for it to use the computer again and it'll repeat this over and over.

Try looking in the monitor setup menus, and changing the way that it detects an idle condition. Also check your video card to see how it is telling the monitor to goto sleep. Some use suppressed baseband, others use (very common) blanking. Change video card, may help monitor as well.

Dell SE198WFP 19" LCD won't come out of standby

I went into the BIOS (with F2 during restart) and changed a value -- IIRC it was called something like "power management scheme" -- from the default S3 to the other choice, S1. Now the old Dell XP Dimension 2350 will go into and out of Standby correctly and the new SE198WFP 19" LCD will too.

Dell monitor - when I put it in sleep mode (press the on/off button)it doesn't want to 'wake up' again when I return. I press the on/off button and briefly see the screen, then it goes black again. What's...

Computer is asleep or the controller board inside is failing to pick up the signal from the computer or you got a loose connection ether or here you need to check the computer and rule out the possiabilites.. From there if that does not wrok the monitor is going to need to be fixed.

You have a power supply in the monitor that powers the fluorescent tubes. That circuit board can be ordered on eBay for your model and replaced. Helpz, yes?

Dell LCD monitor quickly goes sleep, on, off over and over

I would recommend that you try it on another computer to see if you are able to reproduce the results. If that is the case you should look at any new drivers, software or updates that have been installed. If the issue continues with another PC, it sounds as though the monitor's power supply is possibly failing. in that case I would suggest you simply replace the whole monitor. Unless you are not shy with a soldering iron. ;) good luck!

Monitor won't stay asleep

I am not familure with that type of monitor however I found through being a IT tech that some monitors have a setting that allows windows to control sleep and wake commands. You might want to take a look at your monitor controls usually located in front of the monitor. This may solve your problem.
