Recently, my dryer has stretches where it doesn't start when we turn the Start switch; instead, just hums. Humming sound appears to be coming from 'inside' the dryer, not right at the switch. Have tried cycling from one cycle to another, opening and closing door - nothing. Some time later, we can return to the dryer and try it again - voila! all's working again. Am wondering if I have a dying Start switch?

if it hums when you start it means switch is ok. problem may be the motor capacitor. to check, take off the top and give the drum a push in the normal direction of rotation. if it goes then motor capacitor is faulty - cheap part
