The battery will not charge. xt512 will not boot up, with cord

The battery is not holding a charge, and even with the AC cord plugged in, my laptop will not boot up, or if it does, it is only for a second before it turns off

The power cord is showing green, which indicates the cord is working ok... I know that rechargeable batteries (such as in our cell phones) need to be replaced. Sorry for my ignorance, but does this apply to laptop batteries as well?

Do laptop batteries need to be replaced? This one is two years old.

Welcome to Fixya-

it sounds like you a faulty battery. they do have a shelf life of about two years may be a little longer. But first i would make sure the two piece of teh cord are properly connected and that the cord is pushed in all way into the wall. If the green light come on then there isn't anything wrong with your power supply or cord. The problem will be in the battery and I wold replace. hope this helps you and thank you for using premium fixya.com

thanks Tom

Hi,
the problem is most likely not in the battery or the ac adapter, but I do suggest that you inspect the ac cable mine was loose from the adapter and it didn't actually power the laptop.
Suggest you possibly try another charger and if the laptop is under warranty call your dealer for repairs. Warranty will take care of it.

How old is the battery? They have a finite lifespan. It may just be time for a replacement.

If your laptop's battery is not lasting as long as you feel it should the issue may be that the battery is malfunctioning or
it may be another component of your laptop that is not charging the
battery properly. Sometimes the power adapter pieces could become
damaged and as such not charge the battery properly. Or that the
internal wiring of your laptop could be damaged and not supplying the
power to the battery properly to charge it.

Check for warranty statements. Depending of brand, warranty for battery
is 6...12 month. If battery is under warranty, call in support centre
    of brand.

Compaq presario v6101uswont boot not even start up screen

When you plug in the power cord is there any lightswhatsoever on the laptop, where the plug goes in or on the AC Adapter of thepower cord?

When you press the power button do you hear fans running, hard drive spinning, lights on the computer, hear any beeps or lights constantly blinking, hear theDvD/CD drive click and the light on the drawer of the DvD/CD turn on for asecond or two? If so the laptop is trying to boot or may have booted, butthe screen is not showing for some reason.

Beep tones and blinking lights tells the technicians what is going on with thelaptop and why it is not booting. Most times it's a motherboard issuewhen you hear beeps or blinking lights continuous.

Maybe you have a Static Charge Buildup. Remove the Power Cord, Remove theBattery, then Press and Hold the power button for 30seconds. After 30 seconds plug the power cord back in (leave the batteryout) and hit the power button to see if it boots. If it does, you can putthe battery back in and let it charge.

When you plug in the power cord is there anylights whatsoever on the laptop, where the plug goes in or on the AC Adapter ofthe power cord?

Maybe your power cord is bad if you don't get anything to happen whatsoeverwhen you press the power button. And if that's true maybe you wasoperating off the battery the last time you had it on and since the power cordis bad, it was not charging the battery so the battery is drained and the powercord is bad.

Hp compaq nx7400 - battery died and power cord will not turn comp

Some laptops will not power up with a completely discharged or faulty battery. Remove the battery from the laptop, plug in the power cord and try to boot the system. If the system boots, your battery needs to be replaced. Replace your battery as soon as you can, it's not a good idea to run the laptop for extended periods with an open battery bay.
