Question about NetGear MR814 Wireless Router

MR814v2 won't do the routing

I have a MR814v2 working fine for past 3 years until last nite. What I have done is that I try to set the new password, and I put in something other than english language. After that, I can't login to the router. With the login failure, I reset the router. After the reset, I manually reconfigure the router with information exactly the same as before. However, when I typed in a URL into the browser, it will always route the URL to the router smartwizard welcome without asking me for user name and password. Just wonder if somone come accross similar problem and have solution for it.

Hook directly to the router hard wire. Go to configuration page for router and look at wireless security settings. it will show you Wep or some other encryption technique. It will also give you a place to view or change your wireless key. Once you do that write the key down and then connect wirelessly.

Wireless connection problem with the MR814v2

Try accessing the router by using the webpage address: ie linksys is:

and disable the security settings and save the setting and then try it on the other computers. If that doesn't work then see if there is a reset button on the back of the router. Push it in for a few seconds and then search for the wireless network which should be the routers name with a strong signal. If it still doesn't work then maybe the wireless portion of the router is going bad.

Hope this helps

Hi Guest….not sure why this issue is occurring, but this is what I would do:

1. Connect to router via Ethernet cable (not wireless)

2. Try 1234 instead of password

3. Ensure caps lock is off (OK, it’s an old one, but it can happen)

4. If the router came from your ISP, check their website – sometimes they install their own firmware and default password (eg, UK Sky users - try password sky)

5. Reboot your router, then see if it accepts the defaults

6. If you bought the router new, it's fresh out of the box, and you’re setting it up – and the defaults don’t work - contact Netgear

7. If anyone else set up the router, or you bought it second-hand, or you think the password has changed and you don't know the new password- it’s time to consider a hard reset.

This is a last resort, as it will clear all settings and cut off your internet connection, until you set up the router again. A hard reset is only recommended for experienced users (ie if you set up your own router in the first place). However, if this doesn’t restore defaults either, contact Netgear.

Good luck whatever you decide to do.

Might I suggest that you reset the router to its default configuration by pressing and holding the reset button until it reboots. This way you will be dealing with the default configuration. Then try to use it. Remember the default login ID is admin and the password is Password or admin. Lets hope this helps
