Question about Televison & Video
Hi - read your post.
Same problem here - try to turn it on - makes the typical TV sound - then blinks sometimes 4x - sometimes 6x -- then goes into standby mode.
We live in the San Fernando Valley area. Would like to see if we can get this fixed for a reasonable cost (instead of the $1500 to $2000 we were going to spend on a new TV)
Can you help?
Four blinks means vertical scan issues and six blinks means line stage issues. I would repair the power supply first as if the HT fails to start, the software won't know whether line or field has failed and may bring up both codes at random.
Probably just dry capacitors.

Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.

SOURCE: stuck in standby
The 4 blinks indicate a vertical deflection problem. Either the connections on the legs of the vertical IC are bad or the IC is defective. If you can solder, you can fix this yourself. Let me know if you wish to attempt the repair and I'll provide more details and instructions.

There are 3 reasons for 4 blinls
1.unit went to stand by mode because of h-pulse
2.Vertical defflection pulse stopped
3. power line is shhorted or power supply is stoped.
1. check 13vdc on A board of powersupply stage
2. Check IC561 on A-board.

A service technician arrived at my home this morning and infromed me that 13 blinks indicates a bad LCD panel. His quote to repair it was approximately $500 more than the TV initially cost. I contacted Sony support directly, and they have agreed to replace the TV, since it is less than 30 days out of warranty. The KDL40V3000 has apparently been dicontinued so they are replacing with a KDL40V4100(factory reconditioned). I know this won't necessarily help others with the same problem, but if your warranty ended recently enough they will probably work with you to mitigate the expense.

14 times means the LCD panel is defective. I just had one of those tvs in my shop. Sony will take care of the panel replacement in warranty.
