Question about Rio ReplayTV 5508 80-Hours Video Recorder

ReplayTV 5508 does not get past "Please Wait..." screen

I have a ReplayTV model 5508. When I power it up, the "Please Wait..." screen does not go away.

The unit is about four years old. I replaced the hard drive, copied over the files, but this did not resolve the problem.

The blue power light is on and the hard drive is spinning. The fan is not operating.

Can anyone help?

Please make sure the receiver is plugged directly into the wall, bypass any power strips. Make sure the remote has fresh batteries inside, press and release the SAT button and then press the select button. Please wait bars on bottom of screen program running but i have no control except to turn off. i turned it off waited 15min. and still have please wait bars running on bottom screen


This message should appear just during the boot up period, and for less than 2 seconds. If you get it constantly it means that the processor can't load the firmware fully. So either the processor itself is faulty - in that case the unit is dead , since the only way to fix that would imply replacing the mainboard at a cost greater that that of a new unit - or the firmware got corrupted. The corruption of the firmware could have been caused by a lot of causes but its usually just 2 of them that count:
1 - the memory chip that stores it has started to fail - in that case the unit is dead, see above.
2 - there has been a power failure during a boot operation and that has messed it up. In that case the unit might be repaired simply by loading a new firmware in service mode. You didn't said what is your exact model so i can't tell you if this is a job that you can do on your own, a job for an average repairman or a job for the service shop of a dealer. In the last case , especially if you will have to send it to them, it will be cheaper in the end just to buy a new one.

Philips hdr 212 tivo manual recording


Hello, You cannot without a LIFETIME SUBSCRIPTION. Or Subscribe for the monthly fee.
Look into some of the older ReplayTV Units. RTV-1000,2000,3000 series. You can do manual record without a fee.
There are some Tivo Hack Software Tips out on the internet.
But not sure how well they work.

Does not receive 110 side


Hi a_mizrahi! I will be more than glad to assist you in thhis concern. If your model 510 dvr receiver dont get the sat 110. Lets check 1st the cable connection on the back of the receiver, make sure that the cable connected on sat in is connected hand tight and check as well if the cable is going to the wall with a connector as well. Then press the menu button on the upper left of the remote, it will pop up the main menu, once you got it, press number 6-system setup, 1 installation, 3 system info, It will show the system info one. check on the field letter g, you will see sat number, ex only 119, bcoz you cant get 110, check if sat 119 is green on the buttom box, if its green then select cancel on the screen, then select 1 pointdish, select on check switch then once you are on the install summary, select test on the buttom portionof the screen. It will run a test it could be 1 of 2 or depends on the situation of your sat dish.. wait till it finish. once its finish, it will show the install summary, check if you have, input1-119-all- device name, input2-110-all-device name, or it could show this way, input1-119-odd-even, input2-110-odd-even, if you got 110 on the input after the test it means that we are almost there to fix the problem.. select cancel on the screen, cancel all the way out of the menu until it will pop up attention 015, it should show a progress up to 5 of 5 then it will download the programming guide, wait until it finish the download and it will pop up a picture right away on the tv. let check if the 110 is ok, most of the channels broadcast under 110 is your local channels and some upper channels from the sat.. press menu and then main menu willshow, press 6, 1, 3, back to system info one, check on the field g if sat 119-green, 110-green, if there is no 110 showed on the field g, cancel alll the way out of the menu, then press the power button on the front panel of the receiver for 10secs to reset the system, it should show on the front panel of the box that the power light will turn off and turn back on by itself, then it will acquire the sat signal again, it will go to the process of finishing the progress and download the program guide again, just incase the front panel reset didnt work, do the hard reset by unplugging the power of the receiver to the wall outlet for 1minute. then plug it back in, it will go to the progress again and download the programming guide.. check again the sat on the system info one, by pressing the menu button on the remote, press 6,1,3, check sat 110 is there and 119, it should be green on the button. granting still no 110 sat, select cancel, then select on the screen updates - option 4 I think, once your there, check if without my permission is selected or check, then save , cancel all the way out of the menu, once you got a picture, press the power button on the remote to turn off the receiver, leave the tv on, wait for a few secs and it will pop up attention 061, downloading vital program information, this msg will appear if your software version is outdated.. wait until it finish and once its finish the tv screen will turn black or snowy screen and no lights on the front panel of the box. push the power button on the front panel of the receiver for 10secs to reset the box and wait till it acquire the sat signal and download the programming guide, this should fix the problem, if there is no changes, please call dish network tech support @ 1-800-333-DISH, to check your sat system, there is a possibility that there is a problem on the alignment of the dish, switch or lnbf..

Replay does not power up


If you determined it is the power suppy, the but a parts replay off ebay and replace it. If it has a lifetime then worth fixing, if not just pick up a lifetime unit off ebay

Cannot down TV Schedule


1. Press Menu on the remote. 2. Choose Setup from the menu. 3. Scroll to Connect to ReplayTV Service Now. 4. If you don't have this option try this. For ReplayTVs running older software: 1. First, exit any menus you're currently in. 2. Press "2-4-3" on the remote followed quickly by pressing the "Zones" button - this will launch an informational screen, with like a 1-Exit, 2-Clear the Channel, etc. 3. Select #7, 'Net Connect' from the menu. (#4 on ReplayTV 2000 or 3000 series). A message at the bottom of the tv screen will indicate a successful connection. If you are unable to force a connection using this method, you may need to reboot your unit. This is done by pressing and holding the "Power" button on the front of the unit for 10 seconds. (Note: When you hear the fan in the rear of the unit turn off, your unit is rebooting.) Now repeat the previous instructions to force a connection.
