Patio heater ignites and stays lit with pilot. Then goes out.

Patio heater will start and operate as long as I depress in pilot position. If I release it instantly goes out.

Pilot light blew out by a fan..I turned the control off..How do I Ignite Please

First locate where to light pilot. You can do this by following thin aluminum colored tubing from control valve to inside heater. In general on top of your gas control valve is a knob. Turn indicator of this knob to pilot and depress knob. This will start gas flow to pilot at end of thin tube. Hold this knob in the depressed position and light pilot. DO NOT release knob for 30 -45 seconds. Then release knob and pilot will remain lit. Then turn knob to on position. If pilot will not stay lit you may need a new thermo coupler, which senses heat from flame to keep pilot gas flow open.
Good luck

The thermocouple is either too far from the pilot flame or is bad.

Pilot on my patio heater will not stay lit. goes out when i release the knob

If the heater is the same as this type of patio heater and it lights on pilot and goes out it is generally a worn thermocouple. These are designed to switch off the patio heater when something is wrong, changing one fixed 90% of the problems. Sometimes it can also be caused by a worn tilt switch but always start with the most likley and work backwards. Found this site very useful, patio heater problem solving page.

40,000 btu Charmglo patio heater, brand new, pilot light stays lit as long as you keep the knob depressed. As soon as you release the knob, and turn it to the high position, the pilot goes out! Please...

There is a thermocouple that detects that there is a pilot flame so that main gas won't come on unless there is a pilot. That thermocouple is faulty. These are available from a plumbing supply house. The thermocouple will be attached right in the flame from the pilot and connects back into the gas valve.

Kirkland outdoor heater will not stay lit

The thermocouple is bad. That is the part right next to the pilot light that sense's the flame and hold the gas valve open to the pilot. Take the old thermocouple off and go to hard ware store and get a 18" one of what ever length you need and replace. 5 dollar part.

Nexgrill patio heater won't stay lit

I called Nexgrill technical support at 1-800-913-8999. They are sending me a new thermo couple to keep the valve open when ignited - so the patio heater will stay on. I needed to give them the serial number (inside the propane tank door) and fax them a copy of the receipt.

Hope this helps.

Patio Heater pilot lights won't stay lit

crappy pilot flame (not properly heating the thermocouple), bad thermocouple, thermocouple loose where it screws into the pilot safety valve, bad safety valve magnet.

One or more of those is the problem.

Oh...there is also a saftey switch...in case it tips over. It will also cause the pilot to not stay lit (if the switch or wires that go to i are faulty)
