Question about ASUS Intel 440BX Chipset P2B Motherboard

1 Answer

No video etc.

Hi I don't know much about this particular MB. I know there are several versions. The one I have has AGP Video and ASUS P2B is written on the MB surface.First off this is a used machine my daughter was given and I took in on to clean it up and install XP and get it running. First I tested it before I did anything to it everything seemed (sounded like it did) to run properly except I had no Video. I did the usual swapped video cards, connected a different monitor, removed and re-inserted the ram, etc. still nothing. So I am thinking the motherboard may have a BIOS problem. How do I reset the CMOS clear jumper on this particular board and which ones are they? I don't have any diagrams or booklets that came with it. I tried to go to ASUS.com but keep getting Server too busy. I would like to know how to set the CMOS clear jumper(s) and if necissary how to re-install the BIOS on a computer with no video. Should be too tough? Right? Thanks Frank

On the motherboard will be a JBAT1 terminal with the jumper across pins 1-2, so put jumper on pins 2-3, then back to pins 1-2. If not JBAT1, then it may be a 2 pin terminal called CLRCMOS, of which you put a jumper across the two pins for seconds then remove. Although, i can't think of a way to update the bios without seeing whats on the screen.

No, the above video card will not work with the motherboard you have.
the video card you listed is AGP, your motherboard has PCI-Express slots, so you will need to purchase a newer video card.
When purchasing a video card, be sure to look on the box for "PCI-E" or "PCI-Express"

ASUS P2B-F

Hi Moin,
Is there a reason you need to know what those numbers are for?
Asus still has the driver software, manual & bios files for the P2B-F MB you listed above.

For the Asus P2B-F MB click here: http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?modelname=P2B-F&SLanguage=en-us
Here's a picture of the P2B-F MB.

Neither of those numbers you listed above are chipset numbers.
If this is not what you need. Than rephrase your question.

System doesn't see AGP card

Hello flaxx

I believe you'll need to find a way to disable your integrated (onboard) video in the BIOS. I know there isn't a direct way to do it but, please, see the next link. The user there found a way.

HERE is the way another user accomplished this task. (disabling onboard video). It concerns a different Asus motherboard but, I checked your motherboard manual, those same features are available.

HERE is the AsusTek forum for your motherboard. You can search and post here. There will be other users of that same board there that I'm sure will be able to help you.

HERE is your motherboard manual. However, I didn't see anything that particularly addressed disabling the onboard video.

Please, post back here w/ your results, questions, and any comments, etc.

Thank you
BJ @:)
