You Can Not Change. The TV Recognize the signal on the INPUT.
If the signal is 480i than the tv shows 480i
If the signal is 1080p than the tv shows 1080p (if supported)
If you try with your areal antenna (for now digital broadcast is maximum 1080i (in USA) The TV itself doesnt "upconvert" lower resolution signals.

Yo don't. The TV's resolution can't be changed. Only the signal resolution from the source can be altered.

The TV is a fixed pixel device. The panel has a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. The incoming video signal is scaled to fit that display. If the signal is 480i then it is deinterlaced to make it 480p, and then scaled up to make it 1080p. The amount of detail in the picture doesn't change. It's still a 480i image. It's just blown up to fill a 1080 panel.

The TV reports the resolution of the incoming signal before it is scaled. If you have a BD player you can see the effect of changing the resolution setting from 480p, to 720p, to 1080i, to 1080p 60, to 1080p 24. The last three (the 1080 resolutions) shouldn't look too different with a Blu-ray apart from movement because the native picture is 1080p 24 and the TV is simply converting it back to 1080p 24 for display.

960i is a funny resolution. That would be achieved by line doubling a 480i signal. But it's not one of the VESA HDTV timings. TTBOMK there's no Blu-ray or HD source that generates a 960i image. So even if you could generate it then the TV wouldn't understand what to do with it.

Cant remove stand from LC46SB54U - dont see 2 prongs going into back of TV...this is what my model looks like. http://lcdtvsale.devhub.com/blog/167586-sharp-lc46sb54u-46-inch-1080p-lcd-hdtv/

Look at page 7 Quick reference section
for similar model here:

If the mounting mechanism is similar you will need a hex key and loosen 2 pairs of screws on the back near the bottom. The stand should then slide out from the bottom edge.

How do I change the resolution on my Sharp Aquos LC-69E88UN from 480i to 1080p. My satellite box is HD and the tv says its on 480i. Any help would certainly be appreciated

Do you mean the LC-60E88UN? The LC-69E88UN isn't listed at Sharp's USA web site.

Try a different channel; different programs will have different resolutions provided (particularly the local stations). How are you connecting the TV to the satellite box? If you are not using component or HDMI, then get the appropriate cable for whichever of those is compatible with your satellite box. Then change switch the output of the satellite box and switch the input if needed for the TV.

With DirectTV, there is a setup menu option to change the output resolution to the native resolution of the TV. So check that. Menu > Fav's and Setup (press Select) go to HDTV > Video tab. Set Native option to On. The only issue will be that channel changes will be slow as the receiver checks the native resolution. Dish Network probably has a similar feature but it may be in a different menu area. Check your documentation. Both companies have manuals online when you look up the equipment.

I hope this helps.

Just got 46" lcd sharp tv with hd dvr dish reciever on display it shows it has 480p how do i get 1080P

If your dish receiver can receive 1080p then you will get it, if it doesn't then probably the most is 720p/1080i. Check the dish resolution.

Do you have a digital HD box from your provider? If so you need to turn the tv off, power down the box and press simultaneously the top 2 buttons on the box, this brings up a screen on the tv follow the directions to reset. Hope this helps

Have tv plugged in on hdmi cable but picture only showing in 480i how do i change to 1080p

You need to verify that you have hd service with your tv provider first. Then, you need to find out which of your channels are being broadcasted in HD because not all of them will be in HD. HD cable and satellite is not capable of broadcasting in true 1080p. Some of them have on demand services that stream 1080p movies, but thats about it. Channels can only go up to 1080i(which is still beautiful hd). Make sure your HDMI cable is version 1.3 and you should be good...good luck 2u
