Question about Soyo KT600 Dragon Plus Motherboard

1 Answer

I am using an older motherboard KT600-8237 Phoenix technologies, and lost the manual. I am trying to find out how much memory it can hold. right now I have three 512MB sticks and I am having low memory faults come up running Vista basic and Firefox. I think I have the PC3200 sticks installed now.

I was able to go to a memory retailer who had an oline feature that matches memory to *********** board. I used a google search "Memory Capabilities for KT600-8237 motherboard and it was listed on the first page. I found out that the board can support three sticks at 1GB each for a total of 3GBs of memory. Problem solved.

I have intel d845gvs1 motherboard with P4 2.4 ghz, Currently have 2 ram (512mb & 256 mb) how much further can i upgrade the ram, 1GB or 2GB also is the current combination of ram is right?

"Supports up to 2 GB of system memory with DIMMs utilizing 512 Mbit
technology DRAM devices"-intel

you can use 2 sticks of 1 gig apiece to get to 2 gigs of total memory, but you have to make sure that the ram sticks use "512Mbit " technology.

the 512Mbit technology refers to the arrangement of memory chips on the ram cards. a card which uses 64Mx8 (8 seperate memory chips of 64M apiece) would be appropriate.

"Nearly all motherboards only recognize 1 GB modules if they are low density 64M×8 modules. If high density 128M×4 1 GB modules are used, they most likely will not work."-wikipedia"

How can I reset password for Bios Phoenix? the problem is that i can't run windows also

Try this, this is called "Backdoor BIOS Passwords" (manufacturers use these passwords for testing and maintenance.)

Reported Phoenix BIOS backdoor passwords include BIOS, CMOS, phoenix, and PHOENIX.

OR

Try removing your CMOS Battery. (Note that all CMOS information (including the BIOS password) will be lost. You will need to re-enter the correct CMOS setup information to use the machine. The machines owner or user will most likely be alarmed when it is discovered that the BIOS password has been deleted.)
Remove this battery along with the power cable from the power supply. Hold down the power button to fully discharge the system. Wait 2-3 minutes then reinstall the battery and plug in your system.

OR

Some motherboards have a 3 pin jumper by the battery. Lets say that the jumper is on pins 2 and 3. Remove the jumper while the machine is OFF and place onto pins 1 and 2. Power on your machine for a minute. (Note: Your system will not POST). Shutdown your machine and put the jumper back to pins 2 and 3. Power on your machine

boot the pc from cold, note the long identifier number - it contains a 2 character identifier for the board manufacturer. For more info go to the Award bios website, it has a better explanation of this. From there you will be able to either download new BIOS from there, or the website of the vendor/manufacturer.
