Question about Toshiba Satellite P105-S6177 Notebook

Laptop boots then shuts automatically off

My laptop boots but after a few seconds it completely shuts itself off. My laptop works fine but if I attempt to restart it for any reason 9 out 10 times it completely shuts off right after it starts to load Windows. I can get into Bios and be in there for hours with no problems. I have updated the Bios and all drivers. I have replaced the memory completely. This occurs with battery in the laptop or strictly ac power.

My laptop is a P105-S6147. The laptop sometimes will go through post and boot but most of the time it starts to boot then shuts off. This happens at various times during post. Kinda lost as to what is causing this. I thought it might be the bios so I upgraded it on one of the few times it would boot, but to no avail.

I don't have confirmed answer.  But, my Toshiba Satellite A15-S1292 suffers the same problem.  My Internet perusal suggests this results from overheated microprocessor and the built-in kind-of thermostat turns off the computer for protecting itself.  As to my laptop, I gave up fixing it.  I avoid running processor-and-cache-memory intensive programs such as streaming long video or thorough anti-virus scan, because it will predictably force computer shutdown after an unpredictable lapse of time.  Creating air space under the hot-to-feel laptop does not help.  Delimited 5/19/09

Try this, if you have a fast hand, the second it boots, push Ctrl+Shift+Esc and end taskeng.exe.
If you can't do it fast enough, try booting into safe mode, going to scheduled tasks, and removing any suspicious ones.
If you don't know how to boot to safe mode, push f8 until you see a screen which allows you to choose safe mode.

I was loading bios update for Toshiba satellite when it hung when I tied to reboot all I got was a blank screen the lap to is completely un responsive and occasionally bleeps can u help?

Hold the power button down continually until it shuts off. After a few seconds, try turning it back on. Mine has pulled a few tricks like that.......Mine last year automatically changed a command in the boot sequence and I had to take it to a friend to get it figured out.

After turning on my my acer 2300 its boots up fine but the fan only works for a few seconds then stops and then does not work at all

Normally if the fan is bad and failing the laptop will run hot (overheat) and shut down. If yours is not doing that, then you are fine. Sometimes the fans will turn on and off as needed.

Toshiba Qosmio F25-AV205 screen keeps going black

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LEDflashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faultyinverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow myinstructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

CAN NOT BOOT UP LAPTOP

sounds like you may have an intermittent memory problem try a diagnostic cd like ultimate boot cd other possibilities are bad power supply or motherboard issue.but since you didn't say sometimes when you hit the button nothing happens.i will guess it's not power supply.eliminate.memory cpu hardrive issues first then we'll go from there.

Standy By Going off/Computer shutting down

The presentation power scheme is used when you are giving a briefing using the PC as your slide show. So the presentation power scheme will never shut off the monitor or the hard drive, don't want it to shut down in the middle of a briefing. However, leaving it in that state for long periods of time may cause the CPU to overheat and shut itself down for protection. A better scheme for quick boot up would be Home/Office. Turn monitor off after 20 minutes and "never" for hard disk. This way it will save energy (therefore heat) and you will have a quick boot up. If you are using XP Pro, there is also an option to automatically put it in standby when you close the lid of your monitor. Hope this helps. If you have any questions let me know... Please rate this solution before logging off.

Laptop boots then shuts automatically off

If you haven't tried it yet, pull the battery out and try booting from the adaptor only. If it boots normally, then your battery pack may be bad (shorted cell) or the regulator that has the job of charging and monitoring the battery pack while keeping your system running may not be healthy.
If you own any multimeter (at the cost of Chinese DMMs, everyone should own one), check the battery pack for charge. Under normal conditions, they should measure a couple of percent higher than their rating. You will have either Lithium Ion or Nickle metal hydride batteries in the pack so should measure some multiple of the nominal cell voltage of one of those types that are respectively 3.6 & 1.2 volts.

Shuts down with DVD-RW installed, works fine without

Since the hardware route is expensive, have you tried to upgrade the software/drivers for the drive?

It looks like there's an incompatibility between the software, OS and hardware.

Hope this helps :) Kindly leave a rating. Thanks..
