My daughtrs 2001 Chevy s10 has an itermitant starting problem.

Sometimes when you go to start it the starter dosn't engage. It dose not make any sounds but a mild clicking noise and all the dashboard lights flash(battewry, security, ect.). The battery is fully charged. I suspect the starter bu it dosenot act like other starters that try to engage and make a loud clicking sound.

Quick way to tell... next time it won't crank and just clicks... hit it gently with a hammer as you have someone attempt to start it... if all of a sudden it cranks.... it's the starter... replace it before it quites completely.

My 2000 S10 will not crank,it has new battery & alternator, when the ignition is turned on I get all dash lights but won't turn over. The light around the odometer dims when I engage the key.

You need to test the start wire at the starter when the key is turned to crank position to make sure it has power during cranking. Sometimes tapping on the starter motor with a hammer while cranking will engage a bad starter motor

What causes the starter to make a high pitched squeal on my 1984 Chevy s10

It could be the Bendix inside the starter which engages the
starter drive.

2004 Chevy Malibu question

Wouldn't expect ant codes with this issue. If you have a volt meter check for 12v on the small terminal of the solenoid. 12V should appear when the key is turned to the start position. If 12V dose not appear when key is turned to start your switch circuit has a problem. If you have no volt meter you can do this test by turning the key to the run position. Then tap the small terminal of the solenoid with a wire that is connected to 12Vs. This can be from battery or the hot terminal on the solenoid. If the starter dose not engage the solenoid part of the starter is not working. You got a bad starter take it back for a replacement. If the starter engages your switch circuit has a problem. & good luck with that.

2001 s10 auto trans; starter spins does not engage in flywheel

Starter drive (bendix) is bad. Starter drive is spring loaded and when cold sometimes hangs up or spring goes bad. 2 options - remove starter, disassemble and install new starter drive or just buy rebuilt start (has new drive in)

I have a 199 chevy s10 4x4. the starter will engage in the run position and stay engaged even when the engine starts. .I've replaced the starter and checked wiring at started. replaced ignition...

It is so confusing though I had a go at one sometime and it took a whole lot out of us before we realised that it needed a touch from Chevy garage.

Please visit the Chevy Garage it won't cost you much to fix.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya.
