Question about DISH Network ViP622 DVR DTV Receiver / 180-Hours Video Recorder

We have DISH dvr reciver vip 622 we had problems with one and they sent us a new one. it kept freezing up, shutting down and needing restarted, which we would do and then immediately go off. The one they just sent won''t boot up either--it is staying on the system info page--can't get DISH to answer

    I have the same problem... VIP622... second one just died. Exact same thing. The fan kicks on and the screen goes blank. I don't want to get a new box every other month (this is our third box in two months). All my recorded content is lost. Sometimes it will work for 10 mins or so, then die again. I am hoping I can use the USB to transfer some of our shows to an external drive to watch once we get our new box...
    How many other are having this problem?

    I have the exact same problem with our 622. Dish Network is trying to explain it away by saying the unit can not be plugged into a surge protector, but directly into a wall outlet. Our first receiver went down last August and now this one, a factory refurb, has gone down. Dish Network really needs to stop sending customers refurbed units and come up with a dependable product.

    I am having the same problem. I had a 622 that worked perfectly fine for about a year, then it failed. Since that time, I have had to have my box replaced twice!!! This is ridiculous. Each time I lose all of my programming that is on the box. Dish is offering credits, but I'm tired of this nonsense. I thought I was going to lose my mind when it failed on two subsequent Sundays during the Cowboys game... on second thought, that probably was a blessing. Either way, if this box is defective then Dish needs to stop sending it to people!!!

    I have the 722 only for 3 months and already having problems with it. I'm not able to play back anything I recorded without it freezing, can not fast FW or RW without it freezing to, and when it freezes, I need to do a maunal reboot becasue the remote becomes useless.

    We are now having our 4th receiver sent AND it is another refurb unit. They refuse to send a new unit unless we pay the upgrade fee and commit to two years. What a joke! Commit to two more years of losing recorded content every couple of months because the 622 dies? Dish is painful and I had a horrid experience with Direct years ago that sealed that deal. Why can't Dish understand that they spend way more money sending multiple receivers that die than send a new one with a chance of no problems? Or maybe they know that these receivers are just junk, the new units are bad too, and they play the odds with the refurbs. Ultimately I'm disgusted with Dish's bad attitude and the time I spend dealing with it.

    dish tv Vip622 shuts off can keeps trying to reboot but fails. This is the second reciever we have had sent to us in less than 2 months.

    We just ordered a replacement ViP622. Our first ViP622 that we have had since we upgraded to a dual DVR DTV in June of 2007 is having the same problem described here of rebooting itself, playing okay for a a while, and then suddenly dying again. Now it won't work at all. The light goes on, it makes a buzzing noise, seems to be trying to reboot, then stops. It repeats the process over and over. I am a bit concerned now that we are going to get a lemon. I guess a year and a half of playing well is supposed to be good? I won't feel comfortable recording anything now if this is a recurring problem.

First let me apologize for the treatment you received by Dish. It certainly is not our typical response to a customer issue and we are trying hard to weed out the employees that we have to project that type of image to our customers.

Dish has a lot of problems with their inventory of Vip 622's of late. You definitely need another receiver but I would recommend an upgrade to the 722 as these have less than a 3% failure rate. I am assuming this is a new problem and did not exist prior to the need for the first replacement.

The only thing that could possibly cause this issue to continue to occur is if the receiver is in a confined space. There must be at least three inches around the receiver and it can not be in a closed environment without a cooling device such as a fan in the enclosure. Also remember to keep the vent holes on the receiver free of obstructions such as another electronic device sitting atop the receiver. Sounds like a signal strength issue. You may have either a low signal or something like a tree limb is blowing into the signal path dropping the signal strength to a point low enough to causes issues.

If I don't have a cable or satellite television service how to install a VIP 622 DVR HD Antenna


Mount the dish on a pole or house using a mast perfectly plumb. Ensure it will give you an unobstructed view of the sky based on the information that should have come with the dish regarding your zip code for skew, elevation and azimuth settings. You will now need to run one line from the LNB on the end of the skew arm to your 622. Remember to use a seperater inside or you will need to run another line into the back of the receiver. Run a hardwire off back of the receiver's home distribution port to . Connect a line from 3-4 on back of the receiver to your TV 1. ....More to come if needed drop me another line.

Vip 622 rebooting. receiver works when just plugged in,once satellite cables attached, will work for a while then reboots. Can get it going again if take satellite cables off then put them back on. But if...


this problem occurs when the ground on the Dish is not properly connected. What is happening is the cables from the dish are backfeeding voltage and grounding out your rec. Now there could be a possiblity that it could be the rec. however if it stays powered on with the sat in cables discon. then it defintley sounds like a grounding issue.

I lost 60 hrs. of recording time in less than 24 hrs. on VIP 622


Remove all the External Storage devices, make sure that you Un-Plug them Completely including their Power. After Resting the Dish Receiver, Plug-In everything back on and try.

Dish VIP 612 breaks up when playing back recorded shows.


Edy, I am not going to say that this is the definite issue but Dish only has receivers that are 1080i compatible at the time which will give you some blurring and possible pixellating. 1080p will resolve these issues in the future. Therefore if you still need help let me know.
