SOURCE: laptop speakers stopped working
Hello fadesit, It sounds like the headphone socket is sticking/defective. When you insert the jack into the socket a contact is broken to disable the external speakers, when you remove the jack the connection is resumed. Due to the amount of work this will take and the possibility of causing other problems in the process I would check to see if the warranty is still in effect first. If not then the next thing to ask is do you have the tools, mechanical aptitude, patience and ability to risk damaging your laptop to do this yourself? If you want to go the do it yourself route let me know and I?ll post some disassembly instructions later tonight otherwise please don?t forget to rate the posting.
SOURCE: Dell Inspiron 710m laptop speakers no sound,
Chances are that the wires connecting the speakers to the main board have been cut. The same thing happened on my 710m, I no longer have any sound and have been trying to figure out how to get replacements, I've found a few on Google, but have some apprehension about opening up the whole thing and replacing them.
Hope yours is just a driver problem.

Make sure you dont have the laptop muted. Seems simple, but ive caught myself with a muted computer before. First, check to see if your computer is muted, by looking at the little speaker icon by the clock. if there is no speaker there, go into control panel> sounds and audio devices, and check there. Lastly if you have no sound, check your media player, because the player itself can be muted/turned down as well. I hope that helps
SOURCE: sound is working but internal speaker is not working
Connecting headphones to the system will disabled the internal speakers until the headphone jack is disconnected, at which such time the internal speakers should function again.
If you disconnect the headphones and the internal speakers are not re-activated, then there may be damaged to the microswitch in the jack. (Try rebooting after the headphones are disconnected too)
SOURCE: Dell studio 1737 speakers crackle and pop.
My best guess is, if they crackle with the speakers but not the headfones, then replace the speakers. Must be a lose wire or something of that nature.
