SOURCE: laptop speakers stopped working

Hello fadesit, It sounds like the headphone socket is sticking/defective. When you insert the jack into the socket a contact is broken to disable the external speakers, when you remove the jack the connection is resumed. Due to the amount of work this will take and the possibility of causing other problems in the process I would check to see if the warranty is still in effect first. If not then the next thing to ask is do you have the tools, mechanical aptitude, patience and ability to risk damaging your laptop to do this yourself? If you want to go the do it yourself route let me know and I?ll post some disassembly instructions later tonight otherwise please don?t forget to rate the posting.

SOURCE: Dell Inspiron 710m laptop speakers no sound,

Chances are that the wires connecting the speakers to the main board have been cut. The same thing happened on my 710m, I no longer have any sound and have been trying to figure out how to get replacements, I've found a few on Google, but have some apprehension about opening up the whole thing and replacing them.
Hope yours is just a driver problem.

SOURCE: Vostro 1500 speaker problem

Make sure you dont have the laptop muted. Seems simple, but ive caught myself with a muted computer before. First, check to see if your computer is muted, by looking at the little speaker icon by the clock. if there is no speaker there, go into control panel> sounds and audio devices, and check there. Lastly if you have no sound, check your media player, because the player itself can be muted/turned down as well. I hope that helps

SOURCE: sound is working but internal speaker is not working

Connecting headphones to the system will disabled the internal speakers until the headphone jack is disconnected, at which such time the internal speakers should function again.

If you disconnect the headphones and the internal speakers are not re-activated, then there may be damaged to the microswitch in the jack. (Try rebooting after the headphones are disconnected too)

SOURCE: Dell studio 1737 speakers crackle and pop.

My best guess is, if they crackle with the speakers but not the headfones,  then replace the speakers. Must be a lose wire or something of that nature.

Internal speakers do not works

Unplug Headphones. Open Control Panel, Sounds, select Speakers. Perhaps Headphones are set as default. The Dell Audio drivers can be found here: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/Product/vostro-1400 Do ALL your Windows and Dell updates, if you haven't already, after a install.

Hi iam using dell vastro A860 laptop just recently face one major problem laptop internol spaeker sound not working when i use headphone sound working good what hapend the sound is notworking iternel...

Very possibly you muted the sound. Check the little speaker icon in the system tray. When you click it you should see if it is muted or not. Muting the speaker does not mute the headphones, as a general rule.

HI I HAVE A DELL VOSTRO A860 AND I JUST INSTALLED WINDOWS 7 EVERYTHING IS WORKING FINE EXCEPT THE SOUND IVE DOWNLOADED VISTA DRIVERS REALTEK AND CONEXTEANT DRIVERS BUT I CANT SEEM TO GET THE SOUND TO WORK...

If you hear the sound on the headphones then the drivers installed correctly and the defect is either hardware - the jack for the headphones is stuck so the internal speakers are no longer activated when you unplug the headphones = the jack will have to be replaced by a shop - or software - you will have to go into the Realtek HD Control Panel and configure the audio outputs correctly = enable or unmute the internal speakers.
The Panel icon can be found in the notification area or in Start > Control Panel.

My headphones are working properly but my laptop speakers are not working

Sounds like the headphone socket is faulty. When one removes the headphones, the socket has a connector that re connects the speakers. Or indeed the speakers are faulty.

When i connect my headphone to my dell vostro a860 i cant hear the sound.but when i remove it i can hear through the speakers

Hell,
Either your headphone defect,or their an option to increase the volume label ,follow that.
Or you can insert in another pc to confirm about your headphone.

Hope this helps.

Same problem, brand new Dell Vostro, hooked up Polk Audio speakers from former computer and get very, very faint music. Need a solution

if the sound is very faint. you can check the volume properties if it is set to maximize and also check the physical volume control on the actual speaker - also Disconnect Any Headphones That May Be Connected to the Computer - Check for and remove any headphones connected to the computer or speakers to prevent them from muting the external speakers.Click Start, and then click Control Panel.Double-click Sounds and Audio Devices. Click the Sounds tab. You can also try head phone if it is Crystal Clear on headphone then the problem is with the Speaker as Dell might need to replace it. :)

Audio from laptop speakers is fine, headphones are not.

Do these headphones work OK in another machine??

If not they are faulty / If so then sound port may be faulty.
'Ensure it is enabled in BIOS. press DEL key when booting and look for similar.

Internal speakers do not emit sound but I can hear w/ headphones

I have a 700m, so I'm real familiar with the system. I see one of 2 possibilities. The headphone jack has a switch that disables the on-board speakers, if that is stuck or broken, then the jack/switch must be replaced. (Big hassle)

The other is easier to troubleshoot, then connection from the speakers to the MB goes through the Right hinge cover. Take the hinge cover off, check for broken wires (I has one, ***** to splice too)
