See if you are getting power to your gauges. You could also check continuity between the fuse and the wires/pins into the gauges. If you know your getting power to the fuse check those things. If your not getting power to your fuses for these items work back from there. If you are getting power to the fuses and power to the gauges you probably have a bad ground in that circuit. Hope this helps.

Bad Stepper motors....the motors in your cluster are very weak... there is an upgraded motor x 25-168...cost 175.00 parts and labor to replace all of them. Ive repaired a lot of clusters with this very problem

SOURCE: 1996 ford ranger odometer / trip stopped working

Since your speedometers work, the problem is in the gearing to the trip and mileage odometers. Simple problem, major pain to fix but, remove instrument cluster - you'll have to remove speedo cable to get it out. Use the old Mark I eyeball to check for broken parts. Might even have to drop steering column - disconnect air bag first!

SOURCE: 2000 ford focus speedometer stuck at max speed

it may have a static charge in the instrument cluster, try un-hooking the battery then turn the key on and even hit the brakes to try to drain the spark out of the system, hooking the 2 cables together with the battery disconnected may work as well to drain it.hook up the battery and see what happens, but make sure the key is off and nothing is on-lights,radio,wipers etc,it could send a spark to the computer.

SOURCE: dashboard gauges dont work, 1998 dodge caravan

These vehicles seem to have a problematic short, my grandfather has the same vehicle with the same problem, i found the short under the carpet on the driver side of the vehicle, under the gas pedal, sometimes wires can crack and break.

How do I fix my gauges? (Ie, gas gauge, temp gauge, speedometer, odometer)

Fuses? Blown fusible link? Most gauges work by getting 12 volts from the ignition switch when on, and getting a ground from the sender. Often the 12 volt supply wire goes to more than one so if dead, both will fail. If you have a wiring diagram, you might find which wire to cluster should be hot, and trace it backward to find the issue. Easier to check for ignition switch feed first.

My temperature gauge and my fuel gauge arent and the fuse is good , also how hard is it to replace the speedometer cable ?

as for the temp gauge all rangers that i have seen run so cool that the hardly move from the c unless u have a major overheat as for the fuel gauge it could be the descending unit in tank and the speed cable is not to hard to change hardest part is removing the instrument panel

My temperature gauge and my fuel gauge arent working and the fuse is is good .... also how hard is it to replace the speedometer cable ?

On replacing the speedometer cable, on a scale of 1 to 10, probably 3 or 4.
Hooking to the transmission, " baby play ", connecting the other end to the speedometer, well that represents the 4.

I have a 1999 ford ranger 2 wheel drive automatic

Sometimes this works, ABS light on, check engine light on, speedometer not working, and the automatics start shifting hard or not shifting at all? One bolt and the part is cheap, its weird how one part controls so much.

The dashboard

You may have a couple separate concerns. The fuel gauge if it is on empty may have a hole in the float. The speedometer odometer and trip meter is probably a broken gear in the speedo assembly. If the speedometer itself works it is getting a signal from the speed sensor.

My 06 ranger is a 4 cyl model and I also am looking for a wiring diagram. Have you checked bulkhead connectors on the firewall for security, corrosion etc.? If you find the schematic on line please post the link. Good luck.
