Question about Audio Players & Recorders

5 Answers

I have an Emerson model ms3108. The third of three cd disc players does not allow the cd to seat properly. So extreme is the problem that you can hear the cd rubbing, and it goes slowly. It seems to be rubbing at the top of the disc, and there is a noticeable gap at the bottom. This is consistent. The second cd disc player also has the problem, but less severe and does play the cd with a little persuasion. The machine's door also opens very often. My guess was that was due to the improper cd seating. Is there anything I can do about this situation?

You can see two screws at the top of the cd seating case, loosen it and fix the cd case tightly and then tight the screws.i think it is necessary to solve this problem.i have also experienced the same problem in my cd player also.in my cd player the problem was it will not go inside unless we have gentle touch on it,atlast i removed the panel on its front, i mean the naming board which is written the company name etc.the above problem may also occur if you have placed something heavy on the player, which will cause a deformation in its size. try to clean the entire also.if some dust is in contact this will cause the system case to have some damages like this.thank you

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

With the indulgence of the other experts..

Might as well perform a DIY (do-it-yourself). It would be expensive if brought to a service center and no warranty; if an independent electronic shop would work on it, chances are they would be doing the same thing you can do, and that is:

  • open the unit;
  • look for the anything out of alignment, worn gears;
  • the problem is mechanical and you would have to address it by winging it.
  • of course the correct procedure would be to reference a Service Manual.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Hi I have put a cd into the changer but now cannot eject the cd, the stereo reads error 99 please advise

The CD, when inserted, became either wedged or not seated properly and the sensors dont know how to respond. Here are the codes for Kenwood.
Changer Error Codes
• E-00: Poor Cable connection.
• E-01: Magazine not properly set in changer.
• E-02: No Disc in magazine.
• E-03: CD does not have selected track number.
• E-04: Disc is dirty, upside down or unreadable.
• E-10: No data is recorded on the MD. The player plays the next disc automatically.
• E-99: Changer malfunction, disc may be caught in machine or changer requires service.

If you have a steady hand... carfully unscrew and open up the unit just far enough so you can either pull, or nudge the CD tray enough for the CD to be seated in the tray properly...
Good luck...

Will not turn

This is caused by a laser assembly issue, remove top "few screws" make sure the CD player is unplugged, now dip a q-tip in rubbing alcohol, gently clean and allow several minutes before testing. If this fails cheaper to replace the whole player.

My Emerson MS3108 door keeps randomly opening. All CD music stops when it opens and it opens within seconds of the previous openings. Is there something I can do?

It is a leaf switch that senses that the door is closed. A C-clamp in the upper left hand corner clamping the door closed will make it work. If you remove the clamp, it will randomly open again. The correct fix is to open up the unit and bend the leaf switch to make it activate earlier and fully close when the door is closed.

I created a mp3 data cd using cd-r and it doesnt play. I create a music mp3 and it plays with no problem. What am I doing wrong?

Many cd players do not have the capability to play mp3 data files. They do not have the processing capacity of a computer, which reads data mp3 and converts it on the fly as easily as other data files used to install software, etc.
If you know your cd player to be mp3 compatible, try burning at a slower speed, like 1/2 the speed the burner is rated for, or less (like 4-8x), to see if the cd player will read that disc. If that doesn't work, try another media brand. Some cds are of inferior quality and won't write well enough for mp3 data files to be read well by all players.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.

The rubbing Emerson CD player

hello, is this a carosel type loader? they have other internal parts that rotate it for selecting cd,s i understand what you mean.
the reason i say to open the case is incase there is something obstruction the mechanism from going in to the right return position
if you allready checked for this and theres nothing blocking the return cd holding part. then you may need to check this cage assembly for internal broken loose screws or jammed parts.
some plastic parts sometimes break or wear out and cuase the return cage to not load the cds properly. this is a loader issue
your on the right track, it is something with the returning cage
also at times the rubber shock resistant booties on the cd reader & motor assembly they are missaligned or come apart
if a cd dosent sit properly it pushes the drive motor and thats when the rubber mountings can come apart. reader assembly & motor mounts. check for this also.
good luck with your player.

happy holidays

Yes, your expert told me there was no fix and to return it to the manufacturer, which I did. I don't believe I would now try your premium assistance program after that first session which did nothing for me.

Problem with voume

Do you mean that by pressing the volume button it changes the volume to one of these 'extreme' levels only? In either case it sounds like a hardware problem as in probably not DIY. Sorry.
