At first wasn't getting any water through the valve, now it free flows through. I here a click that should indicate that the valve is working, but the water continues to flow. Can the valve be serviced or cleaned?

I have two very similar but not necessarily the same problems.

On one unit, water flows through the solenoid water valve when ever I turn the humidistat knob above a certain level, whether or not the furnace is running. Any suggestiions?

On a second unit, the solenoid vater valve opens when the furnace runs, assuming the humidistat is set high enough, but does not shut off when the furnace stops. Is this a stuck solenoid water value which should be replaced?

    Thank you.

Thanks for your questions,
what you will want do first, disconnect one lead off of your Humidistat, or at the Solenoid, to see if that stops the water, if it does, you will need a new Humidistat, if not, then you have a bad Solenoid, that will need replaced, you should be able to purchase one or both of these either online, or through an appliance store, or your local Heating and A/C shop, hope that helped ya, let us know how we did, thanks again,

Humidifier Running Continuously with Fan Blower

As long as the humidifier start/stop is regulated by air flow there is no way to cycle it on/off with another device. If, however you disconnect that capability and, instead wire it to the heat on cool on switch it will only turn on when the stat calls for heating or cooling. You may need to install an intermediate relay off the stat wires to regulate the different(assuming that they are) voltage of the humidifier start/stop.What a fun project, thanks!

HI, Troubleshooting an Aprilaire Humidifier

Aprilaire, a manufacturer of indoor air quality products including thermostats, air cleaners and dehumidifiers, also offers a line of whole house humidifiers. Installed in your existing heating and cooling system, humidity is produced by a supplied water source that flows over a water panel before being distributed throughout your air through the heating and cooling system. Issues you may need to troubleshoot with your Aprilaire humidifier include error messages and the unit producing too little or too much humidity.

Things You'll Need:

Replacement water panel

Turn down the control dial by one setting if condensation appears on your windows or walls.

Turn up the control dial by one setting if there is a lack of humidity, often indicated by dry skin or peeling wallpaper or paint.

Turn the control dial to "Test/Reset" if the humidifier does not run. Verify the heating and air conditioning unit blower is operating. If the heating and air conditioning unit is not operating or you are unable to resolve the issue contact a heating contractor.

Contact a heating contractor if you turn the control dial to "Off" and the humidifier continues to run.

Contact your Aprilaire dealer (see Resources) if you notice an error code on the display and the "Call Dealer for Service" light flashes.

Turn the control dial to "Off" and turn off the water supply if the yellow "Change Water Panel" light flashes. Lift the front panel off of the humidifier. Slide out the water panel. Insert a new water panel. Replace the front cover. Turn the control dial to "Test/Reset" until the "Humidifier On" light flashes. If you feel uncomfortable changing the water panel, contact a heating contractor.

Tips & Warnings

Purchase replacement water panels through your Aprilaire dealer or a heating contractor.

Water keeps flowing through my humidifier even when the furnace is not on. Consequently my water bill is quite high. How do I take care of this problem of the water continuously flowing through the unit?

There should be a solinoid valve that starts and stops the flow of the water, based upon a call for heat, and to ensure the fan is running during operation. There must be some failure with this valve, or a short in the connection causing it to run constantly. Hope this helps

The unit makes a water mess which seems the result

Hi is the tube at the bottom blocked or can you turn the flow down going in

Water pours out the tube from the lennox humidifier

A small discharge of water coming out of the bottom of an April Aire drain spud is normal. This feature constantly tries to rinse the system. This helps to prevent the possibility of mold or bacteria accumulating in the unit from standing water. It may appear to be alot of water. But be reassured that you are breathing in cleaner air. Now if it continues to drain constantly even when it is turned off then you should repair the unit.

Humidity too low

I corrected the problem...RH is rising nicely!! Installed by "professionals" on my Trane XV90....I redid their wiring and now have the following setup...

600A water supply coming from hot water line.
Removed orifice inside incoming feed tube.
control incoming water flow from saddlevalve on hot water supply ( make sure its a nice solid flow, no drips, but no "force" too it either)..enough to insure entire evaporator unit is wet and water is slightly flowing out of bottom to drain.

I also have it wired to run when ever the furnace blower is on. Heat or no heat. XV90 is variable speed, and by doing this the 600a is always adding moisture, until it reaches correct RH%

Also, I disconnected the outdoor temp sensor. I went to Radio Shack and bought a 47K ohm resistor ( 1/2 watt....4 pack for 99 cents). Installed that in place of outdoor sensor...now runs in manual mode. Have unit currently set to number 5.

Aprilaire 600: water only runs in "Emergency" Heat mode

When your unit is on normal the outside unit works and the inside only the fan runs. your heat pump does not remove any humidity when it operates so the installation cotractor did not wire it to operate then. you can change the wiring on the humidifier to operate all the time by wiring it to the fan (g) terminal then it should work just turn it all the way to the lowest humidity when you are in cooling mode.

SOLENOID DOES NOT SEEM TO BE WORKING.

If your humidifier is wired to run only wen your fan is on. if your water supply is could you will not get any humidity unless the heat in on. you need to connect the humidifier to hot water then you can keep the fan on the on positions by your thermostat and set your hemostat to 35% hum.
