Re: I cannot install the software.
Best thing to try would be to get the latest software and install it from scratch. Go here: HP Site
And select the operating system you are using. Depending how much you use the software you can download just the basic driver package or the full package. Once the software has finished downloading run the setup and follow the wizard.

Make sure the scan software is already installed in your computer. If not, install it using the installation cd that came with your printer. If scan software is already installed and was working before, you can uninstall and reinstall the software. Check your firewall. Make sure to allow all Lexmark communications to go through. Hope this helps. Good luck!
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off.
I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with
the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the
printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud
To get the drivers for Windows XP go to this site http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftwareDownloadIndex?lc=en&cc=us&softwareitem=dj-21835-1 and download and install them. Hope this helps. Bud
Is it the message saying in essence that the software is not approved by microsoft and you have to say yes or no to install it?
If that is the message just bypass it and install. It's a way Microsoft is saying "it's not our software" and not a problem.
If that's not the message let me know and we will go from there.
