This just started happening recently for me. Even when no sound is coming from the speakers, the left one makes weird static noises. This is very disappointing. I bought these speakers less than a year ago and have kept the volume to a reasonable level. Perhaps something became disconnected on the inside.

Speakers/Audio problem

This isn't going to have anything to do with your speakers. It will be something in your system settings that deals with Internet or Video. Check your Sound card selections and your equalizer settings to make sure you don't have it muted somehow.

Compaq Presario v2000 ALTEC LANSING speakers not working

Hello,
The first thing that I suspect is that it couldn't locate the right drivers for installation. Still, I'd suggest that you try reinstalling the right drivers for you laptop. There's no harm reinstalling the drivers. Get the drivers for V2000 at this link, but you need to choose which OS are you using: Presario V2000 Audio Drivers. Take note too, that HP recommends that you delete your existing drivers first before installing the new ones.

The method of deleting and reinstalling can be found at Method 4: Delete and reinstall the original sound drivers of this LINK. That link includes the troubleshooting methods for audio/sound problems. You can go through the procedure that applies to you, but I'd still suggest that you do first METHOD 4.

Please let me know of your troubleshooting success by rating me here, or visit me at http://howtoresolve.blogspot.com or at http://real-online-treasures.blogspot.com .

Good luck and enjoy!

Compaq Presario v2000 ALTEC LANSING speakers not working

Go to "Start", "Control Panel", Administrative Tools, Computer Management, click on "Device Manager" on the left hand side and look on the right hand side. See if you have a yellow exclamation next to the "Sounds, Video and Game Controllers". If yes, double-click on the line with the exclamation and then click on the driver tab at the top. Click update driver and when it asks if you would like to to check the internet for updated drivers, tell it yes, this time only and continue. After this process, it should either download and install a new driver for your sound card or install the one that was shipped with your computer. If this does not work, please let me know and we will check the next possible problem.

Please remember to rate this solution.

Compaq sound trouble

Try and change the drivers for your sound update them then see if it improves. If that dont work the only easy solution for you ie; if you dont want to get inside it and check the sound system or replace it is to buy those external speakers and use them.
