Projector quit working and started smoking

Was working fine, then all of a sudden the remote (corded) would not work and smelled strong electrical smell and saw light smoke coming from inside - took cover off - main motor was so hot it would have burned my fingers - cooling fan/cage seems to turn OK, but can't get advance to work at all - either from button on unit or on the remote

Unfortunately your motor is toast- it also provides the low voltage for the remote control. Motors are no longer available new so your best bet is to try to find an old projector on the sued market. you can often get them as cheap as free to $25.00. If it's working, just use it. If there are other things wrong but it's motor works, you should really have the identical motor- not all were the same electrically.

The focus remote will not work I don't know how to operate on on projector

Not all models of projectors have the remote focus built into them. Remote focus is a feature that designed & built into the projector, not the remote. So if the remote has a "Focus" button, it won't work if the projector is not so equipped. If it is the correct projector model and remote combinations, there could still be conditions causing it not to work, such as: projection lens not installed correctly; gear teeth that drive the lens broken off (some or all); electronics that control the remote function; remote not plugged in correctly (a remote will only work if plugged in the correct orientation of the 5-pin plug) and finally the remote control, itself. Lots of variables. Try troubleshooting in the order I have listed. Good luck !! Jim

Tried a Kodak Extension remote cable and slide transport now inoperative

Take a closer look at the pins on the remote cable and the socket on the projector. Their are 5 pins on the plug. The top 2 pins are closer together than the bottom 2 pins. It is easy to rotate the plug 180 degrees and with little extra pressure, push it in. If the pin / plug interface is rotated 180 degrees, the remote control will appear non-functional. Check that first. Then try plugging the remote into the projector without the extension to eliminate a broken wire in the extension cord. Verify that the on-board cycle buttons will cycle the projector. If they do, and the projector won't work with the remote control, then there may be a open circuit inside the projector. You may need a factory-trained technician to help you with this one!! Good Luck !! Jim

Kodak 650 slide projector that won't advance the slides with remote

Don, Does the projector still cycle from the side (on-board projector) buttons?? If it does, then you have a bad remote (parts are still available from: www.micro-tools.com). If it will not cycle from either the remote or the side buttons, then chances are that you have a broken solenoid link. If you are not familar with the projector & proper disassembly, I'd contact a dealer. Again, you can still get the necessary parts from micro-tools. Good Luck !!

On our Kodak 650 the remote will not advance the slides

Don, If the remote doesn't work & the projector cycle buttons do, then the problem is your remote. If neither the remote or side buttons work, then it is the LINK that connects the cycle solenoid the the cycle lever. Parts are still available from: www.micro-tools.com Good Luck !!

Projector works fine, but will not advance slides. Does nothing with remote or with forward/reverse buttons on projector.

Try a different tray (preferably a Kodak 80-slide tray). If it works, then the problem is a tray problem. If it makes no difference, check the "SELECT" function. If that works, then your projector requires an adjustment to the slide change mechanism. If it does not work, remove the tray and push the "REVERSE" button 4 or 5 times (this will clear a mechanism jam if one has occurred). If you still have nothing, then chances are that the slide change mechanism drive belt is broken or stretched. try the diagnostic things I suggested. If they are no help, I'm sorry to say you need the help of a factory-trained repair dealer. Good Luck !!

Carousel does not turn. Cord remote does not move it. Forward and back pushbuttons on case do nnot move it or make a sound

Because you don't specify a model, I will assume it is an older generation, manufactured in the 60's or 70's. These series had a part called the "link", which was made of plastic. This "link" connects the cycle solenoid to the slide change mechanism. With age, the "link" becomes brittle & cracks, rendering slide change non-functional, regardless if you use the side buttons on the projector or the remote control. This is a difficult repair, but the parts are still available. I recommend you contact a factory-trained repair dealer to fix your projector.

My carousel 600 projector's fan thing wont work

Chances are there is either something binding the motor or the fan - or the fan belt is broken. Parts are still available (www.micro-tools.com), but you will need a service manual to troubleshoot further. Good Luck.
