Question about Pacific Digital (U30274) DVD±RW Burner

Pacific Digital CD/DVD not recognized

I accidentally deleted the Roxio Easy CD & DVD software and the Record Now software and my Windows XP won't recognize the Pacific Digital external drive. I am not sure which software it used but I cannot find the disks. I don't see it in Device Manager either. Is there any free software out there that would recognize this drive or something I can do? Thank you. Michele

    Okay, now I think I got it to recognize it in the Device Manager. It has a yellow exclamation point next to it under USB Mass Storage Device (it's an external using a BUS port). I guess now I would need some software.

    Well my pacific digital external drive was not getting any power on the front of it (light not on). So a friend came over and pulled the rubber apart (no screws to unscrew for that) and, walla, there was an internal CD/DVD in there. He removed a few screws to disconnect it from the case and we installed it as an internal. He also had a Nero Express disk with him so the whole thing is working now.

    FYI in case anyone stumbles upon this in a search: How I got the device manager to recognize the drive with the yellow exclamation point was I went to www.dougknox.com and downloaded a very small program called xp_cd_dvd_fix.vbs and ran that. It restores CD-roms and DVD's to Explorer. It deleted 5 things in the registry that were interfering. Here is one of them as an example:
    WshShell.RegDelete "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdr4_2k\"

The windows might be corrupted. You could try editing the windows registry. here are the steps:

In order to delete upper and lower filters you're going to have to edit the registry. The usual cautions apply. If the registry is not edited properly your whole system can crash.

1) Close all open programs
2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter
3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
* SYSTEM
* CurrentControlSet
* Control
* Class
* {4D36E965-E325-11CE-
BFC1-08002BE10318}

4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

* UpperFilters
* LowerFilters
* UpperFilters.bak
* LowerFilters.bak

5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor
7) Reboot your computer
8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

last option, you could try installing imgburn. here's the download link: http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download

If nothing happens, your dvd drive is bad.

Good Luck,

Ryan

Creater 7 will not record dvd or cds

Hi,

If you are getting an error "No dvd/cd drive detected", you need to delete the roxio certificate.

Goto C:\program data\, find the roxio or sonic folder and delete it and restart the computer.

IS THIS SOFTWARE SUITABLE FOR USE WITH SONY DVD RW

Hi,
Yes it certainly should be compatible with the CD/DVD drive.

Roxio has it's own burning software included with the program, you will just have to explore the software until you work out how to burn a CD using Roxio itself.

If you want to try another burning program try Nero 9 trial. All you have to do is enter your email address and then download the software. Nero is an excellent bit of software, i personally have never had any problems with it.
Get Nero 9 here >>>>>>>>>>
