Remember there is a main power swtch on the back. Is there a red stand by light ?
If so, press and hold the power button (front panel) for 5 - 7 seconds - this is the units hard re-set

According to a comment at Amazon "since firmware 3.5 Sony has blocked 3rd party USB accessories so this no longer works with a PS3. This isn't the companies fault, just be aware it no longer works on the PS3" http://www.amazon.com/PS3-SX-3-Wireless-Controller-Playstation-3/dp/B0031BWM6A

Ps3 red light is blinking how can I fix it

Hello,

Follow the procedure below to fix the problem on your ps3,

1. Turn off Playstation®3.
2. Hold the power button down; the system will turn on and turn off once again.
3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS button

My playstation 3 is completely dead no lights - could it be a new power cord is needed? steve peterson marvarlyce@hotmail.com

Try a different power cord first. If that doesn't work then your power supply has blown a fuse. Power supplies are version sensitive, so make sure you get the right one if you plan on fixing it yourself.

Playstation 3 Power Issue (PSU works)

If the system will not power up at all, ie. no lights etc you probably either have a loose connection or dead motherboard, which is rare.
If you aren't afraid to get inside and check the power conections then be my guest...otherwise call Sony and pay $150 for repairs unfortunately. You could look up a third party repair service via craigslist, but they will not gaurantee the work done.

Playstation not receiving power

This could be a problem with your AC power cord, try these fixes. If they do not work you ca contact sony at:

www.us.playstation.com/Support/PS3
or
www.uk.playstation.com/help-support/ps3

  • The console might not be turned on. Turn on the console using the main power switch on the back of the console.
  • Make sure the AC power cord is securely connected.
  • Visually inspect the AC power cord for damage. Do not use if frayed, cut, or damaged in any way.
  • Confirm the wall power outlet is active (receiving power). Try a different power outlet.
  • If possible, test the power cord by connecting it to a different PLAYSTATION 3.
  • If possible, try another AC power cord on your PLAYSTATION 3.
  • If you experienced a power surge, shortage, or a lightning storm in your geographical area recently, this may have affected the PLAYSTATION 3 power supply and the PLAYSTATION 3 may need service.
  • Make sure the vents are not obstructed in anyway.
  • Make sure there is adequate ventilation for the PLAYSTATION 3. There should be at least four (4) inches of clearance between the air vents on the system and any walls, televisions, entertainment centers, etc. Otherwise the unit may not function properly due to what are actually environmental issues.
