This is not a shocking price, by the time it is removed, re-fitted and alligned. The Laser might be $300 cost tohe repairer. Best you take the player back to the point of sale, chat with a salesman and twist his / her arm for a sharp price on a new replacement machine.

DVD player wont play disks

hi, if your dvd player is giving you disk error message or no disk message then the chances are the laser lense needs cleaning.

What you need to do is go to any big computer store and purchase a dvd lense cleaning disk, dont buy the cheapest one as they tend not to work so go for mid range or top end one.
Then all you need to do is put this disk into your dvd player and it will then clean the lense for you and should solve your problem.

If how ever you still have the problem then try different disk in it to ensure the dvd your trying is working ok if after doing this you still have the problem then the chances are the laser unit itself is no good and needs replacing.
The problem with this is unless your dvd player is built into the telly then the chances are it would be cheaper to go out and buy a new dvd player as the cost of repair would more than likely cost more than the cost of a new dvd player

How to fix the dvd

The problem is in the laser pickup assembly, over time the laser becomes weaker until it can no longer track the disc, the repairs would far out way the cost of a new player.

Cd/dvd player works for cd's but not work for dvd's

In an optical unit the cd side uses a different laser from the dvd side. In your case the dvd laser has failed - it cannot be repaired or replaced = the unit is dead and it will have to be replaced. It's a relatively complicated job that will cost you $60 for a new optical unit and 1 hour of labor - at what the local pc repair shop charges.

Unable to read disc;cleaned the lens but just says "loading. . ." on screen.

The problem is in the laser pickup assembly, overtime the laser becomes weaker until it can no longer read the disc. Unfortunately the only option is to replace the DVD player, because the cost to repair will greatly exceed the price of a new one.

Zenith XBR617 shows No Disc after disc is pud in. Am using Memorex DVD-R. Used to work - does not any longer.

This appears to be a bad laser, or dirty laser.
Purchase a cleaning kit from your local electronics store (5 - 10 dollars) and run it through the DVD player. If this does not resolve it you may need to contact an electronics repairman, or use your manufacturer warranty. Though these are mostly throw away technology and maybe more cost effective to replace with an updated model.

Dvd's are frequently freezing, digitaly breeking down and skipping. (dvd's are new and older)

First, try cleaning the lazer head with a CD/DVD laser cleaner. These only cost around £5 ($8).
If this doesn't make any difference, I'm sorry to say that the lazer output has become too weak to read the discs and the only way to fix this is to have a new laser head unit fitted.
If your player is a top-class Pioneer, this WILL be very expensive, but in any case it will cost around £50 ($80) to replace.

You may have to consider buying a new DVD player!

Dvd player dvd3020

This is a known problem with the DVP3020.

I am assuming that your lens cleaner is for CD as well.

Although identical, CDs & DVDs store data completely differently, which means DVD players need two lasers to read both formats.

It sounds like the DVD laser has failed on your player, which is why it will still play your lens cleaner.

Unfortunately the cost of replacing the laser outweighs the value of the player.
The DVP3020 has been replaced by the DVP3120 which is far more reliable.

The DVP3120 with a multi-region modification can be bought for £17.99 from CheapestElectrical.
